Hi,

I hope that someone can help !

I have a potential buyer who says they're being asked for my '@mail' to complete the order.

I've not had this before, so any help would be appreciated !

Hello,

Etsy is actively engaged in preventing scammers from targeting our community members. If you receive a suspicious message, please proceed with caution. Etsy Support will never ask you to provide personal information via Etsy Messages, such as your email address or password. Any legitimate message from us will show in your "From Etsy" folder.

If you receive a suspicious message, here’s how to report it:

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Your Account.
  2. Go to Messages
  3. Select the suspicious message from your inbox.
  4. Choose Mark as Spam.

You’ll find examples of common scammer techniques and phishing messages here in our Help Center. Read our Account Security Checklist in the Seller Handbook for more steps you can take to protect your account.

@BeAdornedCrafts   No.  This is a scam that’s been going around for 4-5 months now.  They prey on new shops.  Sadly many have lost money.  There is no reason that a customer needs your email to complete an order.  Mark the message as spam.

@BeAdornedCrafts   Also, please note that if you receive a message that says it is from Etsy, check the “From Etsy” folder under messages.  If it is NOT also in that folder then it is NOT from Etsy.

Scammers have sending very official-looking messages that look like they’re from Etsy, but aren’t.

It's a scam. Please read through the announcements. There should have also been a couple warnings in your messages box that you may have already X'd out of (this is why it's important to read things before dismissing them)

This is a scam. Thieves are pretending to be Etsy staff. This scam has been ongoing since at least July 2023. Messages from Etsy will show up in your mailbox titled "From Etsy".

Real Etsy staff will never ask for your email address because they already have it. Also, any actual orders will show up on your dashboard. If the sale is not displayed on your dashboard, you don't have a sale.

Don’t respond or provide any personal or financial information. Don't click any links that take you off the Etsy site. Send the message to spam.

If you have provided any financial information, immediately contact your bank to report fraud on your account!

Make it part of your daily routine to visit the forums. You can learn about ongoing concerns, problems, glitches, and scams. Stay informed!

@Former_Member

the original poster has not sold here for a while

however

as you are in the UK,

you have to put your e-mail address, and home address, in sellers details, and tick the trader box - it is a legal requirement that everyone has to do, selling online from the UK.

Go to your main shop front page

click edit top left

scroll right down to the bottom, edit sellers details,

and in other details, add your address and e-mail address, and save, and click the trader box above, and save.

always treat e-mails the way you normal do in case they are spam/phishing

@Former_Member
Did you read any of the info posted above?
That message was probably 99.9% a SCAM to get banking info from you and to steal your money.

A buyer does NOT ever need your email place an order from your shop. (You do need to do as mentioned above since you're in the UK).

Never ever click a link in a message to update anything on Etsy. This is mentioned BELOW every message you get and right above where you'd reply.

If anything needs updating you will see a notice on your dashboard/finance page. If it's not there, nothing needs updating.

Scammers target NEW sellers because most new sellers don't research and learn how Etsy works.

NEXT that scammer would send you a message that you need to enter you bank account and they'd tell you that you need $xxxxx of money in it before you can sell on Etsy.

Anytime you get an order it will show up on your ORDER page and the funds will be in your finance section > payment account.

MARK that message as scam.

LOTS of info to read to stay safe on Etsy.
