Bots and Deactivation of Listings

I am often having listings deactivated when listing and renewing items.  Everything from toy tool boxes to sewing patterns to wood boxes to jewelry, etc.  When I finally made contact with Etsy via email, I was told "don't worry" the listing will go through review and be activated.  I was prompted to contact Etsy after receiving an email threatening to close my shop for violations.....which I DO NOT HAVE.  I sell vintage and am careful not to list prohibited items.

Today, I spent all morning negotiating with a buyer on a Reed & Barton Oak Wood Jewelry Box.  We agree on terms and I edit the listing to the agreed upon price and the listing disappeared.....yup, deactivated!!  One of the conditions of the sale was that I ship TODAY!

Esty, you are losing money on sales and not keeping your sellers very satisfied, to say the least.  I know that listings need to be audited for counterfeits and prohibited items, but somebody better get a handle on the bot situation lickety split.

This is one reason why, after 6 years of being an Etsy only reseller, I have expanded to crossposting on other platforms.  You may not mind losing sales, but I do and I won't.

Here's to hoping that someone in tech might see this and address the issue.  Lack of a fully operating customer service phone number is a whole other issue.

Most of us love being a part of the Etsy ethos, help us continue to love it, please!!!

Re: Bots and Deactivation of Listings

I'm sorry you are having issues with deactivation but if you are experiencing so many that it is hard to run your shop, it may be time to move on completely.

Reed & Barton name is under fire for having recalled children's items.  It was probably the name that did it.

Etsy is doing what they can to police what is sold on Etsy.  This is unfortunately going to catch some responsible sellers.  There is no way they can police using on human eyes so they must rely on computers as many businesses do these days.

If you go ot edit an item and you know the company has had any recalls don't edit.  The bots are set ti review listings that are being edited along with new ones.
