Be careful with "TechSupport" messages. It's a scam.

Jump to solution

"Hello, Dear seller. Currently, the <<From Etsy>> tab is malfunctioning since it was added recently. Our team has observed that your Etsy account hasn't been verified yet. Kindly provide your email address here. Following verification, a buyer will reach out to arrange delivery! Thanks for your attention!"

**Scam Follow-Up:**
- The scammer directs to a suspicious site, claiming it's for verification
- When questioned about the site's trustworthiness, especially since the domain doesn't appear related to Etsy, the scammer responds, "This is your personalized domain. Therefore, the link to the site may look suspicious," attempting to reassure the seller.
- Further inquiries about the site's credibility are met with, "Because you received this site directly from TechSupport Etsy," falsely associating themselves with official Etsy support.

Scammers are trying to get your banking information so they can steal from you. And I'm sorry you were targeted. There has been an infestation of scammers here unfortunately, targeting new Sellers as well as seasoned ones. Oftentimes, they appear shortly after someone lists their first item/s. These thieves are using "Verification" as one of their scams, posing as Etsy Staff/Support, etc.   When you receive a LEGIT Message from Etsy Support/Staff, etc., it will appear in the "From Etsy" Folder (in Messages). If it isn't there, Mark the Message as Spam (so you don't get dinged for S Seller).  *The "From Etsy" Folder is not on the App, however (you must use a browser instead).

Also for future, many scammers are posing as "Buyers", stating they need your email for an Order. They don't, Etsy already has it. When you receive a LEGIT Order, it will appear in "Orders & Shipping" (Left Column of Shop Dashboard); if it isn't there, you have no Order.  Mark the scammer's Message as Spam (so you don't get dinged for S Seller).  And never click on links or engage with them.

I just don't understand why Etsy can't nail these FAKE accounts who are impersonating Etsy Staff/Support, etc. It's happening way too often. Here is the Announcement about the "From Etsy" Folder (currently this is in past Announcements).

Here is the other Announcement "Protect Your Account from Scammers" (it is also in past Announcements).

*You should edit your post and remove the verbatim Message (we can summarize what a Message is about, but not post verbatim). Nor can we post links. Etsy will come and remove this if it's not taken out. It would also be nice if scammers were eliminated this quickly.

Hope this is helpful to you, and may this garbage cease.

these kind of messages are rampant these days. etsy announced in this post how to identify legitimate messages from etsy so it makes sense that scammers now try to discredit this. you are wise to be cautious. i would remove the message (and the link!!!) before etsy does it for you.

Well, they have tweaked it a bit yet again. There are thousands of these scammer type, like this or very similar. Do not respond, put in your spam folder. ALL messages from Etsy will be in the "from Etsy folder and  it  is working. That seems to be the latest "tweak".

And please REMOVE THAT LINK FROM YOUR POST!
