Audio challenge. Has anyone been asked to do this to sign in to their account?

I've had the puzzle piece before. I think that started last year for me. I took me 20 seconds to solve it because I was trying to move the puzzle piece instead of the slider below it, lol. So I proved I was a dumb human & not a dumb bot. Haven't gotten an audio one yet.

Captchas are getting tougher & more unique. On Shopify, I get ones showing a basket & asking me to select all the items that can be placed in a basket.

Me too. It took a couple seconds to figure it out. I'm glad they don't make you do an entire puzzle. I like them and likely would get hooked.

I had the puzzle piece, not the audio. Mobile browser.

They usually have an audio option available (they have to for the visually impaired). Maybe you tapped that by accident? Not on Etsy, but other platforms I have had to select the audio option because the "find all x" pictures were so blurry I couldn't choose the proper ones.

I've seen the puzzle thingy that you have to "slide" the piece to fit only one time but have not seen the audio.
I'd rather have the puzzle thingy than having to pick out all the crosswalks/stop lights/buses etc from a bunch of blurry pictures.

I've never had the audio - my sound is always turned off - so that would be a bit of a problem

No audio, just the puzzle piece.  I used Mozilla Fire Fox for my browser frequently and this is when the puzzle piece appears when I am trying loggin to Etsy.  Mozilla does not allow tracking of any kind and my identity is hidden. I don't browsers tracking me and leaving cookies on my computers.

I have to do the captcha a couple of times a week and recently have been getting the ''verifying your device'' thing once in a while after clicking sign in but before I actually get to sign in.  Strange that I also get that verifying notice any time I try to search for something.  No idea why.

Never saw or even heard about an audio challenge, but curious about how it works.   Is it something like ''name that tune''?  Or repeat the phrase you just heard?

I started getting the verify device when I search for anything on Etsy even after I login.
That started maybe a month ago, not sure. 
If I X out of the search page results and search for something later, get the verify device again.
I use Edge on W11 on a desktop.

I never get the "verify device" on any other website, just Etsy.

Knock on wood I haven't had to do the captcha thing in a while, just the puzzle slider once.

ETA: I clear my cookies/cache regularly and it doesn't make any difference. I get the "verify device" if I haven't cleared in a while and also if I just cleared everything.

@StitchRoundabout Good suggestion but I do clean it out every time I log out and shut down, even tho the history will be auto-deleted when shutting down the device.   I just like to be sure!

I was thinking the sign in verification thing was an attempt to reduce scam attempts or something.  Doesn't make sense when it happens when searching tho. 

@vintageNCtreasures  Same here - Edge/W11.  Doesn't happen on any other site or when logging into Etsy on Chrome either.

@TheVintagePineapple:  It's funny that you mentioned that as I was thinking that it may be when they have been experiencing suspected hacking attempts, especially when so many sellers are experiencing the same thing.  Etsy needs to update the two-factor verification because it's a cinch for hackers to bypass.  Even multiple-factor verification is a cinch for many of them, but at least it's safer.  The unfortunate reality though is that there is no current way globally to keep the higher level hackers out, which is why even government and military institutions can't keep the most sophisticated hackers out.  Having said that though, China just found a way through a hybrid model:  https://thequantuminsider.com/2025/05/20/china-telecom-launches-hybrid-quantum-safe-encryption-syste...

I am currently playing that game on an old account I was trying to revive. Email was old and unused so apparently killed off by hotmail. Then I accidently signed out and couldnt remember the password and it wasn't saved to this device. Currently 5 messages deep with support. They let me update to a new email after passing the 3 questions test( some of which hinge on being able to access your account) but then it seemed the old email was still attached to the password reset request. Sigh... Called the SS admin and was told even though I had added my and my husband's name under "name" when I opened 16 years ago..as I didn't realize they needed it to match ..they said as long as it is my SSN his SS won't be attached to it. Still not in that shop but not as critical now.
