"Hi! I just placed a gift order, but didn't see any place to include a gift message. How will she know it's from me?"
She's on a desktop. I had her message me her gift note, but why is there no place for her to leave a gift message?
You have to enable that feature
@NanaLetha Mine has always been enabled and she marked her's as a 'gift'.
There is a note on the packing slip print page that says if it's a gift, there is a place for notes from the buyer. I've never personally used it as a buyer so don't know what to look for. So, it's either a glitch or the buyer didn't see it.
The buyer probably didn't see it because Etsy started to hide the note box! It used to be right there on the checkout page. Now you have to click 3 dots in order to leave a note.
@SugarTaffySoap If the buyer is referring to the "Note to Seller" box on the cart checkout page, Etsy foolishly decided to HIDE that. On desktop, there are now 3 dots that need to be clicked in order to show the note box to leave a message. There used to be a plus sign & blurb to add a note, but the wise ones at Etsy though that was too straight forward.
@CanningCrafts Thanks for that information. Do you know if it's a test or permanent?
@SugarTaffySoap - probably permanent since we all seem to have it, and they are going for more clicks instead of more common sense.
@SugarTaffySoap I don't know if it's permanent or a test, but it's been going on for months based on all the forum posts about it. It's not intuitive for a buyer at all.
The buyer should look for Gift Message, because Note to Seller will not be printed on gift receipt. Has anyone ordered a gift lately and could tell us where Etsy moved Gift Message? If my customers asked me where to find it, I wouldn't know what to tell them. Only from the forum I know where the Note to Seller is hidden.
When you add an item to your cart, tick the box that reads, "Mark order as a gift".
(We'll hide the price and at checkout you can add free personal touches to your gift—a note, a customizable preview, and more!)
At check out you see:
Special options for your gift
@RiversEdgeRelics thank you. It looks like Gift Message location hasn't changed then.
@irmaKdesigns On the gift order I will see "Note From Buyer" or "Gift message". Gift Message doesn't have their name after the message so I have to go to the gift receipt to find it. Sometimes it's not an individual but a team sending the gift so the packing receipt helps with that.
I create my own custom card for the occasion, and then copy/paste the buyer's gift message onto it. It's then placed inside the gift box for the recipient to be greeted with when they open the gift box. Some sellers ask the buyer to add their gift message in the "personalization" box before they check out, but a while back chat support said not to do that.
I just checked and you don't have gift enabled. Everyone has the mark as gift. That simply means a receipt without pricing. To get the note and gift wrapping that has to be enabled.
Note to buyer is not the same thing as having the gift message enabled to leave a message Two separate things.
@SugarTaffySoap "Gift Message doesn't have their name after the message"
I copy/paste my own gift cards too, and the name is usually showing. When it doesn't, that's because the buyer forgot to add it.
Some sellers complained that the name gets cut off. Perhaps when the character count exceeds allowed space, the last line gets cut off.
@ArtDollsbyJD Seriously? In Options > I have Offer A Gift Note enabled. If YOU can't find the area to leave a gift message then there is a problem.
I never said anything about "gift wrapping"! Gift Wrapping is a different option choice that is unrelated to messaging.
@irmaKdesigns Whether the Gift Message has the name after it or not is irrelevant to my post. Yes some add, some don't. This particular buyer could not leave a gift message. It's plain and clear. Other buyers are able to.
