This is what my dashboard says under Marketing > Sales and Discounts:
"Choose which targeted offers you want to set up, and we’ll email your discount to eligible shoppers."
No thank you emails have been sent to past buyers. For months I've
been deactivating and creating new thank you codes thinking maybe
it would work with a new code.
Has Etsy stopped sending emails or is it just my shop that isn't working?
@SugarTaffySoap: You have to keep in mind that Etsy will only send the coupons to those who have opted in to receive coupons (not to everyone who has purchased from you) thus the 'eligible shoppers' disclaimer and then only those who have purchased after the code was set up. Also Etsy has some limitation on how many coupons they will send to any one account during a given period of time. Plus coupons have a historically low redemption rate.
I think there is a return buyer code. Not sure if they have to bee opted in to get that or it is included on the Etsy Your item has shipped message?
I just reactivated my code as it seems these codes also show up as pop ups for return buyers. I don't know if that counts towards the "emails sent" totals. But mine is definitely being sent.
@BagmakerSupply provided some good information as to why yours may not be sent. Also, if you hover over the ? by the blurb, it says "After an eligible customer’s order is marked as shipped, they’ll get an email with your offer. Eligible shoppers have opted in to receive Etsy marketing emails."
Having said all that, it does seem odd if you've had ZERO emails sent.
I guess they're still working, at least for me, because I know I had a sale with a thank you coupon yesterday and I get a lot of the 10% off yes please coupons....
@funkydreamsmosaics This issue of Zero Emails goes back to 2023. Some of my thank yous that etsy did email are shown as promo codes. Doesn't make sense.
Is it your "thank you" box that shows emails sent? I was wondering too if the return buyer popups count as an "email" even though it's a discount message to repeat buyers.
@BagmakerSupply Yes, the opt in feature. But I reviewed all of my offer stats from past years to the present and can see what brought in revenue and which thank you's did not. 0 emails. (It would have been easier to have a Search bar under Offer Details so I would not have had to review every single offer - i.e. thank you, promos, abandon cart and favs to find just the "thank yous" in the stats.)
Without going into specifics, lost revenue is my concern from May 2023 to present.

Of course it does.
A thank you is a promo code, that you happen to tick "send automatically after purchase" which is what makes it a "thank you".
All auto campaigns (thank you, abandoned cart and fav's) are promo codes.
"Thank you" codes for returning buyers are also printed on the packing slips that Etsy generates. I believe they are also included in the shipping confirmation emails, and maybe on the order summary page in the purchases section.
Not everyone is opted in to receive emails from etsy, and I don't think that should be used as a benchmark for how many are actually getting them.
@AutumnHollowStudio wrote:"Thank you" codes for returning buyers are also printed on the packing slips that Etsy generates.
Not necessarily. You could use the same code, or you could use a different code (as I do), or no code. You have to manually select if it includes a code and which code to use. I doubt that Etsy keeps track of those, since whether you include them or not is done when you print out your packing slip.
@CappuccinoLace No you are incorrect. Thank You (emailed) and Promo Codes (sharing) are different in how they are sent to a repeat customer however both are the same result i.e. discount >>> In the Stats History Overall Performance there is a "Thank You" which Etsy emails or is supposed to. It details the other codes such as abandoned cart, promos, favorites, sale as well. I'm trying to say I had to create several new Thank You codes in the past because each one never sent emails out.
@AutumnHollowStudio Yes, I do see codes on orders. None for Thank You. I do know not all buyers are opted in. Have you looked in your Marketing > Sales and Discounts to see what I am referring to?
Actually @CappuccinoLace is correct, the Thank You codes *are* Promo Codes. They are promo codes that you set up that get emailed by Etsy. And they show in the Offer Details and Stats so you know when/how they were used.
But seeing what's being used and what's being emailed are in 2 different locations, as you describe.
I deactivated the automated Thank you codes, but I have one for return buyers that I list in the Message to Buyer... I can't say that it's very effective but I've had a couple people use it (return customers). They would have to read the email message with the order confirmation to see the code.
I just checked my coupon codes. Etsy has sent quite a few in the past month and one or the other was used 4 times.
So they're working.
If you keep switching them up, and don't keep the ones you've replaced as active, buyers might try to use a coupon code that doesn't work.
Coupons do work. Those are sent to those who opted in to receive them.
Still, it doesn't mean those people WANT to use them. I don't necessarily need a ton of items from shop X to back there often, even if the coupons have a big discount.
I have some shops I was purchasing several times from, up to the moment I thought "Enough is enough - I don't need more of it" [not that I was purchasing every month, but once in a 3-5 months period]. There are so many shops on Etsy, that buyers may want to try out different options and don't back to where they already bought from.
The thank you code isn’t very effective for me, hardly has a sale with it these past few years. The abandoned cart coupon though gets a lot of sales. Not sure if Etsy changed something recently but I am getting a lot of sales with this, perhaps it is automatically added to the basket now like immediately, not sure. But it has been disproportionately high compared to previous years, I might have to increase my prices… but yes I do get sales with that (not quite sure “from” that, as in if they wouldn’t have bought it full price anyway).
@funkydreamsmosaics The word (word) in "Overall Performance History is THANK YOU (not "Promo Code").
So for example, a Thank You coupon code I manually created (that Etsy is supposed to email) would be let's say "SAVE". If I click on Details there is no information that Etsy e-mailed this SAVE code to the repeat buyers. BUT in the past Etsy always provided the detailed information in the Thank You box (with the present box icon) AND AND details in the History Performance Stats including how much revenue was made. This is the problem.
My promo codes (for sharing) are fine.
Once you've ended a Thank You, it just says "promo code" above it.
Whereas an active "thank you" says "thank you" above the code name.
(i've literally just tested this).
So you've got an active Thank You, and it's showing no emails sent, so do you end the code, or "stop sending"?
I will admit I didn't see the Thank You above my Thank You coupon!
But when I click on the upper right corner about the Thank You emails, and I click on the Thank You under Offer Details, it provides the same information, so I'm not sure which information you are missing.
@CappuccinoLace The Thank Yous in the past I deactivated because there were no emails sent by Etsy.
There is one active now but it's useless because Etsy is not sending emails for that one either.
