Anyone else selling digital downloads have customers getting OOPS message from ETSY?

I have had several customers this past week who have purchased digital files say when they click on the link provided by ETSY it gives them an OOPS message and they are unable to access their file(s).  This is not only frustrating for them, but also for me.  Having to look up their order and personally e-mail it to them with a "thank you for your patience - must be a glitch" message takes time on my end and defeats the purpose of the pricing for the digital download.  I have been selling digital downloads since 2012 so I know this happens from time to time but several customers having this issue in the same week definitely appears to be a glitch that needs some investigating.

I've had that happen lots of times, especially lately. In some cases, the buyers are trying to access the files using a different Etsy account, or sometimes the Apple Pay people have difficulty getting to their download page. Some of my customers are new to digital downloads as well and don't know where to go to get their files. Sometimes I think it's just Etsy being weird. Lots of reasons.

It may also be that you're getting lots of new customers who have never ordered here before, so that is a good reason!!

It is time-consuming for me too, but it's part of doing business.

The most recent customer with this issue mentioned she has purchased digital downloads before and the download process was efficient and this time it did not work. None of these “oops” messages were Apple Pay. All that reported this problem to me are ETSY members, not guests. I am puzzled as to why so many in one week.

I haven't had any Oops messages, but I have had quite a few lately that are having issues finding their downloads. They don't give specific reasons, just "I can't seem to download it". Luckily I don't have too many sales, so finding their order is easy, but I'm hoping that changes soon lol

I get several “can’t find my download” messages each week, too, and have to explain how to access the files even though I write it out on the listing and also have visual graphics. These instances are different, though. All said when they followed the directions they got “Oops” messages from ETSY.

Re: Anyone else selling digital downloads have customers getting OOPS message from ETSY?

I too experience this in spurts - the last week or so has been OK, but some weeks it seems like a twice a day occurrence.  I recently realized that one of the big reasons is that Etsy offers multiple ways to sign in -- not just Etsy userID/pwd, but also Apple, Google, and Facebook.  This occurred when yet again, one buyer said she couldn't find her files, and I could see she was messaging me from a different account than the one she bought her patterns on. I had always assumed this happened when someone had multiple Etsy accounts, but she didn't think she had multiple accounts.  After I told her about needing to sign into the same account she made the purchase under, she finally realized that she rather randomly signed into Etsy using FaceBook or Google but not often her Etsy account, because she couldn't remember her Etsy password and would just use the account she could immediately remember the password for.  She admitted that she'd always found Etsy downloads confusing because she had to so often go back to sellers to ask them to send her patterns to her because she couldn't find them in her account.

She wrote back later to say she was grateful I mentioned it to her, because she'd then been able to go back and find a lot of previous digital purchases she'd made but lost track of.  I'm not sure exactly what she meant or how she did it, but it's clear that this multi-sign-on flexibility causes problems for digital downloading.

The Apple sign-in ability is almost worse, because the email address is scrambled by Apple.  One woman wanted me to email her the pattern she ordered, but wouldn't give me her email address because she "protects her privacy."  But she couldn't manage Dropbox or GoogleDocs, and in the end I swore on my grave that I would never sell her email or spam her, and we finally resolved it.  All that for a $3.50 downloadable pattern.  Yes, it's the cost of doing business, but I wish Etsy's download system weren't so complicated for so many people.

Interesting points. I always wonder why some buyers can't download a pdf, because it seems so easy.  When I purchase a download, a receipt pops up, I click the download button, and it downloads immediately. I use a laptop. I know the app doesn't work, but that doesn't explain every instance of not downloading.

Thanks for taking the time to weigh in and for such a thorough explanation. I wasn’t aware of all the different methods used to sign in to ETSY and how this messes with digital downloads. Seems like this is what ETSY should address for this problem. I also don’t like that ETSY does not block customers from purchasing digital items from Apple Pay. 99% of the time Apple Pay customers do not receive the e-mail receipt link, the order is not linked to their ETSY account, and they are frustrated because they need the file yesterday and have to message the seller to e-mail it to them which could take up to 24+ hours. Frustration for all

Re: Anyone else selling digital downloads have customers getting OOPS message from ETSY?

I tried to have a discussion with Etsy help about this last week, because I wanted to better understand how this all is supposed to work with the multi-sign-ons and downloads.   But the rep I was chatting with had absolutely no idea what I was talking about.  She kept trying to offer solutions before I'd even outlined the issue completely, but none of the proposed solutions were remotely relevant.  After a while I just thanked her for her time and ended the chat without learning anything new.

I get this often. I had one just today and had one on the weekend in my digital shops, not this one.
