Dear friends,
I thought a message was genuine and so answered...only to realize a minute later that it was most probably a scam. I then marked it as spam and so I wanted to ask if this is enough or there is something else to be done?
Thanks a lot
I will never answer anyone, not ANYONE, asking me to do business with them via etsy messaging. The only responses I give, are from prospective buyers asking about my products, or from a verified buyer as shown through an order received via my etsy account, otherwise, all business solicitations I will mark their message as spam. That is enough, yes. That's all you can do.
Done about what?
So that the person cannot contact me again in any way...
Spamming it should be sufficient. However, depending on what information you gave them such as your email, they might contact you that way again.
Thanks a lot.
I didn't give any personal information...
That would depend on what your reply was to that person.
It was a person proposing linen clothes and fabrics for reselling, and I answered that I love linen for knitting, but is not sewing, but asked if they have a website. The problem is that I only clicked on the name of the person, afterwards, to discover that it must have been a completely made up story. And then immediately marked it as spam.

Thanks a lot, yes this sounds like good advice for the future!
Indeed. I recently was contacted through etsy messaging by a local business in my small town soliciting me with their phone number and full contact info. Totally legit. Wrong place to solicit me. I marked it as spam. Go through my website and I might consider your solicitation. The only thing that matters through etsy messaging is if you are asking about my products or already a buyer, if not, you are marked spam.
You may know this already, but just in case.
Don't click any links in Etsy messages. Don't scan QR codes. Don't share any information asked for "verification".
Same with emails pretending to be from Etsy. All legit Etsy messages go to "From Etsy" folder.
Be sure to check your Inbox, From Etsy and Spam folders daily (there are known cases when legit messages from buyers went to Spam).
Thanks a lot,
Yes I already received a scam message pretending to be from Etsy, that I luckily didn't respond to!
