All of the items in my shop are suddenly marked “make an offer” and I didn’t do it…

Jump to solution

Hi, yesterday I got an offer from someone on an item in my shop that I do not take offers on. I had to reply to them and tell them there was a mistake and that I don’t take offers on that item. (In fact, I only have 2 items in my shop that I take offers on.)

Anyway, that prompted me to go check my listings and I discovered that suddenly ALL of my listings were marked “make an offer”. Then when I went to try to fix this, I would “publish the change” and it doesn’t save.

Everything in my shop is currently listed as “make an offer” and I can’t change it.

Is anyone else experiencing this glitch? It is very strange and a bit frustrating because I am likely to get more offers on things, and customers getting irritated because it “isn’t true”. I have an announcement up on my shop alerting people about this, but not everyone will see that.

i hope it is resolved soon.

I looked at 4 random listings and didn't see make an offer on any of them.

Yes and the auto renew gets turned on by Etsy also. Undermining the shop owners for sales. Sorry this is happening to you. As long as Etsy is not charging a new listing fee on everything, you can publish your items.

I don't see the Make an Offer button on the listings I looked at in your shop.

Thank you so much for looking for me - see my comment to other poster - I am going to see if shutting down helps - maybe it is on my end?

That is very interesting - thank you for going to look at my items and telling me that.  I have looked at them from 2 different devices and also 2 different browsers and it shows it as make an offer on every listing I have.  I am going to try to shut down both devices and restart and see if that fixes this issue - maybe it is on my end???

@RiverwalkBeadDesigns   That may be a display issue.  Clear out cache and cookies to see if that is the reason.

I use the offer and have not had any issues with it so far.

Also you are using the Buy together on at least one of your listings.

But I found no make an offer on the listings I looked at.

I just shut down and restarted and they still show that way.

If someone would kindly check this listing (I just looked at and it is the one that I got an offer on), I tried to turn it “off” on this one, please let me know what the status is on that one.

thanks everyone

I’ll try the cookies/cache option as well, though I hate doing that. lol

@RiverwalkBeadDesigns: Any Etsy link that contains '/me/' or '/your/' is one that only the owning shop can access.

To publicly share a link to a listing, use https://www.etsy.com/listing/[LISTING_ID] or https://[SHOP_NAME].etsy.com/listing/[LISTING_ID]

How do we know if "make an offer " is on items.  I allowed offers only on some items when this first started, yet about 2 weeks I received an offer on an item that shouldn't have had offers on.  Is there a way to tell what items the offers are on and how do we turn them off if the offers are on?

There isn't a way to tell unless you open the listing and look to see if that spot is marked as "on".  There also is not a way that you can do an edit for your whole shop to turn that off - I have looked.  So, if you are in my situation where it looks like they have reset all of your listings to have this turned on - then you have to edit every single listing.

For now, I am going to try to "not react" and listed to everyone on here telling me that they do not see that option on my listings and just hope it is some weird error on my end.

This is the publicly accessible version of that link:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1884216758

I don’t see an option to “make an offer” (I even set my country to US, in case I was just not seeing it because you don’t ship to Canada)

I don't see a make an offer on this item either. My shop is set to US.

BUT... I guess you have a license to use Wicked for this item? Otherwise it is counterfeit.

Hi LastCentury -

I very clearly say that the item is INSPIRED by Wicked and since Elphaba doesn't even have a wand in Part One - I haven't stolen anything.  I appreciate your concern though.

"Inspired by" will get you nowhere. You are using the movie name & characters to sell your item without license or permission.

"Counterfeit or unauthorised items are prohibited on Etsy. We consider counterfeit or unauthorised goods to be items that imitate an authentic good, particularly by using a brand’s name, logo, or protected design without the brand owner’s consent."

@RiverwalkBeadDesigns Unfortunately you can't use "inspired by" as a defense against IP infringement. Should Universal Pictures do an IP sweep, they could report your shop to Etsy

The problem is, the owners of these characters feel you ARE stealing from them because you are using the names and likenesses of characters they paid artists to create and now you are making money off of them and not giving them anything.

They have spent countless millions to advertise these characters so everyone instantly recognizes the names and visual likenesses of those characters.

-Characters they either purchased the rights to or invented and developed over many years …and OWN the rights to. So, unless you have their permission to sell their characters (which is only granted with a huge cost), you are profiting off of their investment without permission.

-Kinda like if your neighbor allows you to walk in their yard and tells you and your little daughter can take a flower…then you cut a bunch of their flowers and open up a flower stand in your yard next door. You’re profiting off of something that isn’t yours.

@RiverwalkBeadDesigns  Inspired by won't keep you safe - if the trademark holder reports you, your shop could get shut down and you could be sued!

All - this post is about me having a glitch in my shop.  I understand and I have gotten the message.  Please no more comments about licensing - that wasn't the point of this post.  I'm not trying to have a debate about licensing.

This has the potential to get out of hand, so please just no more comments.  Thanks
