Adjust Thumbnail Glitch - Please help

Each time we make a new listing and adjust the thumbnail size and position, after published the positioning of the thumbnail doesn't stay. We have to re adjust it...the glitch starts all over again and this is a lot of time wasted. It will take about 5-6 times readjusting for the thumbnail position to stick. This has been happening now for over 6 months in our shop. And yes, we have an updated browser, our internet is high speed. I don't have any other issues on other sites but here which leads us to believe it's an Etsy glitch. Any insight on when this will be corrected? I've submitted a thread in the past with no replies. It truly becomes frustrating to have to continually try to adjust this...sometimes we just give up and list on our other sites, which we don't want to do. We have an inventory of 20,000+ photos to list and this glitch hinders that from happening.

Same thing has been happening to me. I chatted with an agent and they said engineering is aware of the issue. This is such a waste of our time. A bug like this should be an easy fix, especially since it's been happening for months.

Same here, takes 3 or 4 times to stick. At least they are aware.

Admin support: we've been trying to fix the same photo for over 30 mins this morning. Can an admin please let us know when to expect this glitch to be corrected? I worked the corporate world for over 20 years, closely with design and technical engineers on an executive level. This glitch should not be difficult to debug. It's been 6 months. Please don't force us to move onto another site to list. We've been part of the Etsy community for 15 years, loyal and true. But when you get met with the same obstacle on a daily basis, it becomes frustrating. Please escalate this to your senior engineer team.

The same thing is happening to me. I've tried over eleven times to adjust a thumbnail on a listing. ELEVEN. It just keeps defaulting back to the original like it was never adjusted or saved. It's honestly crazy inducing. I just reported it to Etsy for the umpteenth time but haven't received a response. This has occurred intermittently for ages but today it's relentless. I can't believe that such a simple bug has been allowed to continue for so long.

@DandRPhotos   Your photos in some listings are not square which means the thumbnail which focuses on the middle is focusing actually in the wrong place.  Photos need to be square.

Also a browser works better than the app.

And some browsers work better than others.

I have have a thumbnail problem with Edge browser.  I also use 4:3

Photo shape isn't what's causing this issue. We're able to upload, and adjust the image to render the way we want in the thumbnail preview box. When we hit publish, those changes are not saving. 

It's not the browser either, this issue happens intermittently wherever I've tried. And I don't believe the app has the capability to adjust the thumbnail.

I just heard back from Etsy and they admitted this is a technical bug they're aware of but they couldn't give me a timeline on it being fixed.

This isn't to do with photos not being square. It's to do with adjusting thumbnails and the adjustments not being saved.

This has been broken for literally YEARS.

Etsy has no interest in fixing it.

I suggest you take a photo perfectly adjusted for the thumbnail and upload it directly to the listing instead of fighting a losing battle with something that will never get fixed.

Thank you so much for this suggestion. This has been driving me insane. I read your reply and couldn't believe I hadn't already thought of it but there you go. This is now saving me so much time and I get my thumbnails perfect first time every time.

I'm having this issue, also the core listing details section does not work when setting up a new listing, I'm forced to use the app to create a new listing. I also can't see all my categories when logged in, I can only see all my shop categories if I'm logged out and viewing as a regular customer. The issues are getting more and more all the time. I complained to Etsy but they didn't know how to fix anything. I told them they should give me some kind of credit since I'm not getting the service I pay Etsy for. I'm sure you know thier response. They basically laughed at me and told me to pound sand.

Same here in both of my stores. Must have tried to readjust it 10 times and it still looks awful. This has been an issue for a really long time but it used to be that if you adjust it a couple of times it eventually stuck how you want it. Now it absolutely won't.

I reached out to an agent again today and got the same response that engineering is aware of the issue. I'm going to keep reaching out as often as I can until this is fixed. If other sellers have time to do so, maybe we can flood them with feedback until they prioritize this.

This is doing my head in, just adding my voice...another case of Etsy shooting themselves in the foot by not adequately investing in site function. Bad thumbnails = less sales.

And to those saying it's been a problem for a long time - you are absolutely right, but usually after 2 or 3 attempts it would stick. Not so this time!

@TheHopAndPop - Agree!  I used to be able to adjust it a couple of times and it would stick, not anymore! Come on Etsy, basic site functions should work, it's not like this is a new site.

I decided some of my thumbnails are too close up. Could be because of the change in dimensions. So I've been editing them.

I have better luck if I go in through the public view of my Etsy shop rather than the edit listing from the shop manager. I haven't had any problems when I'm copying a listing to make a new one or publishing a draft. I'm just want to adjust my existing thumbnail. On Firefox on HP laptop.

I click on a listing, go to edit, scroll down to adjust thumbnail, move the slide to the left to see more of the image if I made a close up. Click done off to the right. I have to scroll down to "apply" to finish

I am beyond frustrated with this - I literally spend more time just trying to get the thumbnail adjustment to stick than it takes to make the entire listing. I have to try the zoom/adjustment tool over and over and over and over......literally 20 or more times in most cases now before it will take. If you are going to provide an adjustment tool, could it please at least WORK.  It's taking SO much time to list something with having to deal with this each and every time.

I've been here since the end of 2019, and I don't think it's ever worked for me.

What do you call a glitch that's been happening for over 5 years and not fixed?
