AVERAGE REVIEW RATING CALCULATED WRONGLY

Hello everyone,

On July 3rd or 4th, I noticed that Etsy updated its interface—specifically the section showing the number of years a shop has been active and the yellow star rating. Immediately after the update, I observed a faint strike through the last black star in my five-star rating display, indicating that my overall rating may have dropped.

I've been on Etsy for 13 years, and in my experience, this kind of change only happens when a negative review is received. However, I haven’t had a bad review in over 3 to 4 years. Then, on Friday, I saw that my average rating dropped from 4.8 to 4.7—despite having no recent sales or reviews to explain the drop.

This is incredibly frustrating. For over a year and a half, I’ve been struggling with my shop being buried in search results. I've done everything I can think of to revive the store that was once thriving, but the more I try, the worse things seem to get.

My main question is: How did my rating drop from 4.8 to 4.7 when there were no new sales or reviews?

Honestly, it sometimes feels like there may be a glitch or error with Etsy’s system affecting my shop. I would greatly appreciate any critical analysis or insights anyone can offer.

The shop's rating goes by the last 12 months of reviews.  A 5 star rating just dropped out of the equation on July 4, so that 3 star rating in November carries more weight now.

New reviews come in and old ones age out...nothing lasts forever.

The rating is correct.  You have 7 reviews over the last 12 months. 6 x 5* and 1 x 3*.  That's a total of 33 stars, divided by the number of reviews, equals 4.71.

And they never round up; it's always rounded down.

As to the display of when you began, Etsy has been playing with how things look again and it seems anyone here prior to 2010 Etsy can't seem  to use the dates they started and opted for 2010.  There is a reason for it but it is one of those things that just don't stick in my mind.
