Had an email supposedly from Etsy Support looking just like something they send which told me in order to view my new orders today I would need to provide and email address. Luckily it just seemed weird and I didn’t respond as this seems distinctly dodgy.
Definitely a scam. They are running wild at the moment. Never give out your email, bank/card details and never click on any links in messages, especially if they say they want to purchase an item and send you a link to it. If ever you are unsure, post here in the forums as you have just done.
Just to add, in our Etsy Messages, there is now a folder called From Etsy - any real messages from Etsy will be in that folder. If you receive messages saying they are from Etsy and not in that folder, they are scammers.
except now... the scammers are saying this:
At the moment the < <From Etsy>> tab is not working as it was added recently.....
the scammers learn from the forum.
etsy needs to leave the scam warning up in the messages.
no clicking an X and making it go away for at least 3 weeks.
if sellers get scammed while that message is staring at them in the face for 3 weeks...
then that is on them.
@Melsey When you said "email supposedly from Etsy Support", did you mean Etsy "Message"?
This is getting to be B.S. The scamming and hacking has increased ten fold since it began here (I've been here since 2011; I"m sorry but this doesn't make sense). Sellers didn't suddenly become brainless; many of them sell on multiple sites. I do know people who sell on ebay, and they said they don't understand why the problem is so huge here (Yes, we already know scamming is up everywhere), but man, this is an epidemic.
Only recently did I discover the "From Etsy" Folder does not appear on the Seller App (I don't use it, but how many others don't know this). Put a BLARING Announcement to Sellers about this. And bring the Announcement about the "From Etsy" Folder out of hiding (currently it is in past Announcements). Put a blood red "Warning" in every Seller's Dashboard (yes, that's where we are at).
Scammers are hitting new Sellers as well as seasoned ones. And I believe they think it's pretty easy over here.
ETA: I stand corrected in the above post. Not only is the "From Etsy" Announcement buried under past Announcements. But now the Announcement "Protect Your Account from Scammers", is now gone (unpinned) from the top of the Forum. It too, is under past Announcements. Really, we got a handle on the scammer situation?
