I hope someone can help me. I just started my shop and I got a message from a customer that says he wants to purchase one of my products but he said Etsy was asking for my mailing address since he lives in Belgium and it's considered an international purchase? Is this true? I haven't made a sale yet let alone an international sale so not sure if what he said is true.
I know there are scammers even on Etsy so I don't want to give information to strangers.
Thank you in advance
Sorry, It's a SCAM. Just mark the email as Spam.
Scam. Mark as spam and do not respond.
It’s a scam, Etsy already have your email address & your physical address so they have no need to ask for it.
Scam
No one, ever, needs your address or email to complete an order or checkout on any website. That alone is a huge red flag.
Etsy already has your email, address, bank account and card info, and will not ask for it again in an email. If Etsy needs anything from you, Etsy will direct you back to your shop dashboard, the request will be there.
Do not take conversations off Etsy, and don't click on links.
Thought so. Thank you everyone for your response. Appreciate it
If you are selling to Belgium (and anywhere else in the EU) then you must display the physical address of your business up front in the area of your shop policies, called Seller Details.
This is a legal requirement, so essential.
So anyone from the EU should already have access to the business address before buying.
Hi, I'm really sorry you were hit by these goons. It's been open season with both new Sellers and seasoned ones. I'm glad you didn't click.
There is an Etsy Announcement at the top of the Forum, re: Scams. Also, there should be a blurb about this Announcement within your Seller's Dashboard. When you click onto it, it takes you to the Announcement. Stay safe!
