I'm wondering if anyone can help.
I recently requested a final shop name change to Etsy which wasn't granted as I've been told that I've exceeded the number of names I can use. I understand Etsy's position on this as I went through a phase of changing my name early on as I just wasn't getting seen and thought maybe it was the name. I also changed it a coupleof times based on changes to items I was selling.
Due to completely changing the direction of my business I now wish to start selling special occasion craft items. These items do not suit my current name in any way and Etsy said that unfortunately it couldn't be changed, so I had no other option but to create a 2nd shop. I haven't yet added any items or made the banner as I'm really unsure of the current payment reserve policy and if there are any new systems in place.
The average price range of the current items that I wish to sell are all very low value, barely £2.50 each (+ additional postage of £1.99) so I can only send out via standard royal mail post (no tracking). Sending any other way doesn't make it viable. Can anyone give me an idea of the percentage etsy would take from each sale, and how long the hold is for?
Hmmm didn't think Etsy was not allowing name changes as desired. I know there used to be a limit of I think 5 or maybe three but I thought that was done away with.
But anyways a new shop can under up under payment reserve just for being new. Having too many sales at one time, etc. The article on payment reserve says more. I suggest reading the article in Help.
If you are put on Reserve, Etsy normally keeps 30% of sales income for upto 45 days after the sale for 90 days after your first sale. Any fees are taken out of the unreserved portion.
(But the percentage and timescales can vary and some sellers get a minimum amount to be kept in Reserve.)
Using tracking or Etsy labels will count for Star Seller purposes
Another good thing for UK sellers is that orders under £10 don't need to be sent with tracking -- so upto 3 items will also be fine.
thanks for your replies so far. So lets say I sell an item at £2.50 + £1.99 postage (total £4.49), etsy would take 30% of this and keep it for 45 days?
I had a payment reserve when I opened my current shop but everything was sent tracked and normally I was paid within 1-2 weeks sometimes shortly after I uploaded the tracking so it was workable. But in this situation, my profit on each item is just over £1.00 each so I don't know if it's even worth going ahead with a 2nd shop if that's the case?
