High School Craft Shows?

I've done both the spring and fall shows at the Lewis Central High School and have done fairly well at both. I will be attending the spring show again on March 26.

I was interested in finding out of there are other high schools that have good shows? I've heard that Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson schools have shows...anyone know if they're any good?

Thanks :)

Re: High School Craft Shows?

I don't know about Abraham Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson, but Millard West was a great show. There are details posted in the other discussion thread about Omaha events.
Last year was my first for craft fairs and there seem to be a lot of factors that go into play and determine whether it is a good show. Here are a few that I found make a difference: amount of advertsing done by organization who is putting on the event, the reputation of the event (how long has it been going on), where your table is placed (new vendors don't usually get prime spots), number of craft vendors vs. small business vendors (I sell handmade purses, so if the Miche bag people are 4 booths down from me, it is not going to be a good day for me). But I have also talked to folks who have been doing the craft fair circuit for years, and some years they can do really well at a particular fair, and then the next year not do well at all. If selling your product to a wider audience is your goal I think you just have to take your chances and get out there.

Thanks for the Millard West info.

Yup, I agree with all those tips. You can never out-guess your customers and some years are better than others at the exact same show. And advertising is definitely the biggest make or break for a show!

Re: High School Craft Shows?

Thanks for all the good info. I haven't done a show in years, but back when I did, I would always do badly if I was selling my own stuff. I'm a good crafter, but a terrible salesperson. But my mom and dad would occasionally come in a watch my booth for a few hours, and when I would come back they'd sold up a storm.

Hi - I know this thread is old, but I have a 10 year old daughter who would love to be able to sell her crafts at a local church/school event. I am having trouble finding one! Any suggestions?

Re: High School Craft Shows?

In the "Omaha craft shows" thread, I posted the entire notice I got from St. Wenceslaus on their March 23 craft fair. Here's the paragraph with the link to their website:

This year, we have simplified our application process. You no longer need to mail in a registration form as this can be filled out online for immediate registration. Please see our new website: kofc10909.org/bowtique/ for event details and to fill out a registration form.

I don't know if there's still room at this point, but if not they have a waiting list.

ETA: That was an active link in the original thread. Not sure why it didn't copy that way here. You can either find the link in the original thread or copy and paste from this one.

Re: High School Craft Shows?

Added too late to edit: I just checked the St. Wenceslaus website and they have 23 openings left.

I've been in this fair the last two years. The first year it was the best event I'd ever sold at (still hasn't been topped), but last year it was a total dud - people said the weather was too nice and everyone was working in their yards. So I have no idea how good it will be this year.

I know Skutt high school has a craft show each year. Does anyone have info on it?
