October goals

More scarves! Keeping it simple this month, I guess... :)

My mother makes sweet little garter-stitch scarves and I'm hoping to bring some of them in to my shop, mostly with the idea that any scarf money will be our "fun money" during the few weeks we spend together each year. She's hesitant though, because she's a little embarrassed that she only knits plain old basic scarves (we learned to knit together from my grandmother a few years ago), but I think they're adorable. We'll see.

Re: October goals

Yes, you should definitely encourage her to list them! My mom does all kinds of art, but I can't get her to sell on here. I'm persistent though!

Re: October goals

Well, we had a really nice catchup last night about all sorts of things, at the end of which she said, "Now, Loutche (this is her nickname for me... don't ask...), I don't want to have to take pictures or mail packages or anything, but I will send you a box of my scarves and you just see what you can do with them."

So we'll see.

I found a scarf last night that I apparently had finished ages ago and forgot about, so will try to get some pictures of that tonight. Slowly building up fall inventory. :)

Re: October goals

Your mom's nickname for you sounds like the Russian word for "better"! :)
Well, that's cool! I hope that you can sell some, I bet that would be a lovely surprise for her... to know that someone wanted to buy her scarves!

Re: October goals

Here is the scarf I just finished this morning, in particularly autumn-ish colors and so soft in alpaca and mohair and wool. :)

Re: October goals

Hi Emma,
Love that scarf..as you know I think alpaca is amazing! Your shop looks really sharp (say that 5 times.. lol) I love the colors and patterns you choose and your work blows me away, how I wish sometimes, that I could follow a pattern. lol

I've been doing a little crochet this past month working on a tutu for my grand-daughter. Last month found her moms ballet slippers from when she was three and they fit Hailey who's three now. She was over the moon so I figured better make a matching outfit. This gramma thing is fun!

Plus something about the cooler weather, it makes me want to sit on the couch and knit or crochet. I'm sure you most likely find fall/winter more productive?

Re: October goals

Love this shop! I really like the photos/model for your golden leaf scarf, the pink shawl, and the grey and brown scarf with guy model. Fun shop to just stroll through with beautiful photos and items.

Re: October goals

Nikki, thanks so much! I like to think my shop is warm and cheerful and welcoming (and not just because everything in it is fuzzy/warm/bright). :)

The golden leaf and the grey/brown photos were taken by my stepbrother, who does a lot of video/photography work -- I actually worry sometimes that his professional-looking photos make the rest of my shop look really amateur, but I usually don't think that's the case. The pink shawl model is me, being awkward, taken by my boyfriend, being very patient. :)

Re: October goals

I love the alpaca scarf. Very beautiful colors! I thought of you when I was in Peru and they had tons of alpaca scarves, etc. I half-looked for alpaca yarn, but they didn't have any in that location. Just finished products. I am sure it would be tons cheaper for you, though!!

Re: October goals

Haven't been knitting much this last week because my boyfriend rather unexpectedly showed up in town for a week on his way to follow the fall Phish tour (that's what I get for falling in love with a hippie, I guess!). Had a wonderful and wonderfully busy week. He left this morning but then Friday evening his mother arrives so she can go to the annual New York State Sheep & Wool Festival with me finally. Should be a blast, as long as I manage to refrain from bankrupting myself on all the amazing yarns that I'm sure will be there... :)

Re: October goals

Thanks, it really is amazing yarn. The white is pure baby alpaca, which is pretty much the softest yarn ever. And the oranges greens reds is a mohair wool blend that I found at the New York State Sheep & Wool Festival a couple years ago, hand-dyed at a small goat farm in Pennsylvania. :)

Re: October goals

Emma, yes the trip was with my daughter. It was amazing. It is such a different world there, but it was really good for us to see. I think by the next to last day, we were getting comfortable with being there! You should definitely go if just to get alpaca yarn! They had the most amazing items in baby alpaca. It is so incredibly soft!!
