payment question

With the holidays arriving, like, tomorrow, I thought I would buckle down and explore other payment options for my SD shop. I know Paypal is the only method integrated with SD shops, but I was thinking along the lines of attempting to add Amazon and/or Google checkout buttons to my items. I realize that the amount of code tweaking we can do right now is limited, but I was wondering if anyone else had considered/explored these options? Does anyone think that adding these additional payment options would encourage sales?

I just went in and added an amazon button to one of my items, which was fairly simple, but the code must not be communicating with my Amazon payments account, because the button goes to a page that endlessly attempts to load (the little whirling circle almost hypnotized me, lol). I intend to play around with it a little more before I give up, but I wanted to know if anybody else had thought about/tried/had any luck...

Re: payment question

Hi I have considered it too. I just tried it out with google checkout and it seems to work. But I will have to play around with it more when i get back from doing errands today..

Re: payment question

Thanks for the response, Nora! I need to try google checkout. I have an account, but I don't remember my password, etc., because I've never used it.

Re: payment question

Okay, I logged into my merchant account and was able to add a Google checkout "Buy now" button, but I will have to play around with it, too. It seems to work, but the way the code is written, it creates a big, empty white space in the listing above the button, pushing the social media buttons (as they are in the shop design I'm using) down.
I hope I can figure out a way to make it look better.

Re: payment question

I just tested it out with the "Buy Now" button and yes i see what you see, the big empty space. What I tried out was the "add to cart" button and it does not do that, no big empty space. I think with the "add to cart" button a customer can purchase multiple items, but I believe the "Buy Now" button is just for one item.

Re: payment question

Awesome, thanks Nora. I was under the impression that I couldn't use the "add to cart" button, since I wasn't sure it would integrate with SD's checkout, but it really doesn't have to, since they would choose one method or the other. I'm gonna go back in and try that myself.

Re: payment question

Nora, I have a stupid question. Google has more than one cart option, aside from the "buy it now" button. Which one did you use?

I tried applying Google checkout shoping cart, but I'm missing something. I know some code, and can usually figure out where to stick it to get what I want, but when I created an "add to cart" button, it gave me two snippets of code. I entered one in the listing , but wasn't sure where to enter the other one. Is this the "add to cart" that you used? If so, where did you enter the second snippet of code? Thanks for your help!

Re: payment question

Hi Renee, yes there are 2 codes for google checkout shopping cart, and yes that is the add to cart that I used. I just put the second snippet before my product description.

Re: payment question

Yes, Nora, you are brilliant!
Thanks so much for checking back with this thread and answering my questions- that worked :o)

I'm getting traffic as I continue to add items. Hopefully adding other checkout options will increase the possibility of orders!
