Staging pictures

I have some vases I am considering listing. That means taking pictures and I like to bring the vase to life by including at leas one picture with flowers. However I have no flowers blooming in my yard, having not much of a yard in the first place. Buying cut flowers for a photo session which does not include enough vases to make it worth it significantly cuts into the profits. So I am wondering about the pros and cons of silk flowers or other non perishables to purchase and photograph. Any opinions or an I just better off to photograph the piece alone, when fresh flowers are not available?

Re: Staging pictures

Personally I would steer clear of fake flowers. If you don't have flowers try branches with some leaves still on them or herbs from the local supermarket. You can buy a bunch of green parsley for about $2 or less. Another thing to consider is feathers (long plumes). I would try to stay with something organic. That's my opinion. Good luck.

I agree with Ann. Most silks flowers are pretty obvious, especially the affordable ones. Branches, holly or evergreens for the holidays would look nice.

Maybe time your photo shoot with a nice dinner or birthday so you can use the flowers for the shoot then decorate with them or gift them to someone special.

Re: Staging pictures

I had photographed the last vase just empty, though I think I'll go with the branches idea. Some interesting gnarly branches should keep and if I need to make it more interesting I could hang there some colorful origami ornament just to five buyers an idea that they do not always need flowers in the vase.
The timing of the photo shot was the problem in the first place, but the branches idea should eliminate it.

I agree with branches that's what I have used in a few of my vases. I was also thinking about getting some dried flowers you can get from a craft store.
