How do you display your pottery?

I've only been doing shows for a few years so my display is constantly evolving. When I look at pictures of my first show I cringe because it reminds me of a garage sale. :-P

Pottery presents challenges that many other crafters don't have to deal with (my #1 favorite: breakability!). I live in fear of someone crashing into one of my tables and everything goes flying. So stability is priority one! However, you need to get things off the table (avoiding the garage sale look!) so that means shelves, mug trees, etc.

I've seen threads on other teams showing our display booths and don't see many potters. So I wanted to ask this team to show us you displays. Sharing ideas gets those creative juices flowing!

Here's ours:

Re: How do you display your pottery?

I do several crafts shows and folk festivals so i have to have my own tables, I had a woodworker make me some piano hinge shelving units two for the floor and three for the tabletop, can't find a picture of the floor ones right now but this is a bad pic of the tabletop ones at the end of a sale......is everyone else like me, I'm always in such a rush at set up that I don't get to taking pix until its all over.

I have an EZup and folding tables and screens for my jewelry, but I can't find pics of those, sorry.

Love that ladder idea, I have some outdated plexi risers that have defintely seen better days...LOL

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Thank you for starting this thread. I am looking at starting a booth at the local Farmer's Market and have looked all over the internet for this exact thing! I've gotten some great ideas already :)

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Here's a shot of my booth--my set up is made of lightweight wood the 4 units are clamped together on top for stability and it all comes apart and folds up to fit in a Volvo station wagon.

Adornyourself - I love the accordion idea! How many units are strung together? I also forget to take pictures of my booth and/or forget my camera and end up taking crappy pics with my phone.

ClayLickCreek - Amazing that your display folds up at all! Beautiful!

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Thistlebee, that is the two table top units with one long board that goes on top of the two units to join them at the top for stability.

I also have 2 floor units ,larger but the same principal, that didn't make that pic because they were dismantled.
Great colorful display Mary Judy, do you work in earthenware?

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Great information. i will include mine as soon as I find pictures. I use regular flat tables for my flat ikebana vases. I have two step tables that create shelves at two heights, that completely dismantle. And pegboard, hinged vertically, that wraps around one corner of my booth in front to display my hanging wall pockets. That really makes people stop and notice my booth that otherwise might have walked on by.

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Awesome displays, everyone!!
Any suggestions for a seriously-shoestring-budget?

Anyone kind enough to suggest something for displaying platter-sized pieces and hanging tiles? I've been asked to do a local window display (bank) and don't have 'show' experience or any display/equipment other than a table and 2 sets of Rubbermaid-type shelf-units.

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Faith ann,

I have a rattan and wood folding screen with basketweave holes that I got at Walmart for about 100 bucks for part of my display for tiles and hanging things.

It's stable enough to hang stuff in a window without anchoring, but needs to be against a wall if you use it at sales.

Can't find a picture sorry.

Re: How do you display your pottery?

you can buy mesh type fabric which is used for awnings , etc. at lowes. You can get aroll of it for around $30. You can strecth it and attach it to any kind of grid or frame work, then use drapery hooks to hang your pieces. i have used this successfully in my craft show booth, also use it as back drop material behind my shelving.

Re: How do you display your pottery?

I use black adjustable wire shelving (comes in chrome or black). There are 4 - 5' length shelves, each one has a cherry wood insert. The cherry wood insert it a very thin veneer so it is not so expensive. My work tends to be earthy, so I find that the wood goes very well with the pottery and the black metal frame of the shelving unit offsets the wood nicely.

Re: How do you display your pottery?

Wow! Some really great ideas here! Keep the ideas coming!

FaithAnn - I don't have wall hangings but I use acrylic plate stands that you can find in the photo dept at a dollar store to display my large platters.
