Happy to find you all!

Hi there! I'm so very happy to have found this team! Though my shop says I joined in 2008 I have just recently started the proces of becoming an active shop here on etsy. I have been a struggling studio artist for sometime now...usually working on the side to help make it in the studio. Then again, this is nothing new to all of you wonderful potters out there...it just takes time I suppose and I have spent nearly ten years figuring it out...but hey ...we have all been there! Anyway..I thank you all for allowing me to join and be able to enjoy all of your work in a collected spot. My current project is the revival of the southern classic face jug in a new hyper realistic fashion. I invite you all to have a look and PLEASE send us some feedback or crit....we need to hear from other studio artists!!!! Look forward to further findings here!!! Thanks again ..kipp

Re: Happy to find you all!

Hello Kipp!

First let me say, that prior to joining this team I have looked at your Angry face jug numerous times. I myself, (on a much more novice scale) am interested in the mixing of sculptural anatomy and functional wares.

I just created a studio in my basement, and have been working furiously!! I have a few items up, mostly from graduate school where i had access to gas and wood kilns.

I usually approach work from a female perspective, have you dabbled in the female form much in your work? The male form and expressions are much more challenging for me.

Great to see your work!

Re: Happy to find you all!

Hey Amanda!

It's fantastic to hear from you! Thank you so much for the compliments! I hope your basement studio gets up and going well and just know it takes some time to get going...DONT GIVE UP! Keep your work going and evolving. Yes I have tried the female form in our jugs....matter of fact we still have one up the old lady which I'm not selling because I enjoy it so much...hence the outrageous pricing on here. I'll say this about the female form..GORGEOUS! but let me further elaborate on that...I'm slight bias towards the lovely female form and the curves involved...matter of fact when I was learning to make dinner bowls I continually referenced a nude photo of a beautiful woman....and my dinner bowls made of a continuous curve were born. But...back to the subject at hand...we haven't gone much further into the subject matter on our face jugs simply because it's very difficult to capture the "model.esque" version of a female ...in particular young females. Their bone structure tends to be far less pronounced while their skin tends to be much more smooth. That being said my studio partner is a trained artist with a degree in graphic illustration and a heavy background in medical anatomy and I'm actually a biologist. This gives us an unusual perspective on these faces as we search for not only the art side of it but the accurate representation of the human form....sorta hehehe. We want to base our faces on a common anatomical structure while stretching it just far enough to give a characature of our subject. Sooooooo yeah ...long story for the short answer of yes...we have tried females...and I enjoy the figure but without more of the body of said female represented it seems a futile effort bringing a supple smooth skinned face to the party. Besides, sometimes it's easier to hide the shakes of a hand with big wrinkles in the crows feet :)
Talk to ya soon
