New to stone cutting....need the basics

I am a metalsmith and I would like to start cutting my own stones.
I have a few books on stone cutting.
I am planning to go to Quartzsite next weekend for their gem and rock show.
What would you suggest as "good" start up equipment for cutting cabs?
I am not interested in cutting faceted stones but freeform shaped cabs.
Thanks for your expertise.....

A used "genie" by diamond pacific tools is probably the best thing to get. A new one is very pricy!
I bought one used from another very busy lapidary 15 years ago, sold it to a friend 4 years ago, who sold it to another jewelry designer who wants to learn cutting herself!!!
It doesn't seem to wanna wear out!

All my stones are cut on one now as well.

Yes, Diamond Pacific. I have the smaller Pixie and it's awesome. Don't skimp out like we did at Quartzite... probably the same weekend. Went cheap on a slab saw and its nothing but problems.
