Larimar

Hi, I'm new here. I play with the stones after you guys cut them, lol. I"ve been here on Etsy since 2010 and thoroughly enjoy interacting with everyone.

I have a question about Larimar. I've purchased some Larimar beads a short while back. It's not the first time I purchased Larimar, but it's the first time I noticed little cracks in some of the round beads. Some of them even have a crusty white matter in the cracks. Is this normal, and these are just not one of the best strands? Thanks to anyone that can help me out with this one :-)

Re: Larimar

Hi Wendy
I get here when I do..Sorry..!!
As for your question..I had to go and look at my chunks of Larimar to see
I did not see any cracks or crusty white matter....Larimar is pricey so to make beads would cost quite a bit for the good stuff...price per strand is to be taken into consideration....I am a turquoise person and own several very good mines and have seen the prices of turquoise escalate in recent years...If a price per srtand seem way to low then there is a reason...good turquoise is now runing several hundred a pound into several thousand a pound so a bead strand that weighs 1/4 of a pound should sell for hundreds so if not then something is not right...Larimar is far more rare than turquoise so the good stuff should be several hundred a pound....so they use a low grade with mixed stone it forms in to make beads with...Just have to realize quality does cost...I hope that helped...!!!
