Vinyl Sticker Questions

Hey there! I'm fairly new to sticker-making and so far I only have them printed on sticker paper and I cut them out by hand. I know that vinyl stickers can be made, but I haven't looked too much into my options on those yet. (They might be an option after my shop maybe takes off a little more.)

Honestly, I'm not sure if any of the local printers have vinyl sticker options, if it's better to go online or if it's possible to buy vinyl sticker paper in sheets so that I could print onto them myself.

As more seasoned sticker makers, what is a good option when weighing options for money vs quality?

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

I have done the same with sticker paper, but recently I have been making stickers online with Sticker Mule whenever they have promotions. They are much more durable and you can get away with charging more for the better quality! Sticker Robot is another good sticker site.

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

I guess the next question would be how much people would be willing to pay for stickers of better quality.

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

Vinyl is very durable, but yes does have a higher cost. I believe the cost is justified depending on the application for the sticker. Window and wall decals should be weatherproof, but something to slap on a binder or notebook doesn't need the extra durability.

The designs of the stickers themselves are very important selling factors. People are willing to pay more for iconic imagery and brands they love. If you're designing the artwork yourself, they need to be really good in order to sell from appeal alone.

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

There is some speciality vinyl which is made for laser printers. However I don't think its a very cost effective option. There are several ways stickers are made, ie screen printed, ecosolvent printed, solvent printed, and latex.

For one to two color simple shapes (rectangles, circles etc) It's hard to beat stickerguy.com. They screen print their stickers. We, on the other hand, print our stickers digitally on a eco friendly latex printer and then cut them on a graphtec plotter (big brother to the silhouette).

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

If you print your own labels on an inkjet or laser printer, I'll recommend Online Labels. They have a wide range of sizes, colors and materials, including vinyl. Here's the link for the 2" labels: https://www.onlinelabels.com/OL5375.htm

One thing I love about this website is that you can order samples and try them out yourself.

Personally, I think vinyl comes out so much more beautiful when you compare them to other stickers. But I'm not sure if your typical customer knows or cares about this difference!

Rachel - Have you tried printing on the inkjet media? Is it waterproof? My experience has always been that most inkjet inks are water soluble and will bleed or wash away.

Re: Vinyl Sticker Questions

I print and cut vinyl stickers all day long. We print on vinyl using latex and thermal machines. Would be happy to send out samples to anyone who wants to check out our work.
