Hi,
A lot has been said about the frequency/infrequency of social media posting. Much has been debated about engagement and click-through rates with respect to posting.
Here’s a straightforward rule: To keep existing in people’s minds, you have to post frequently. If you go MIA from social media, your followers will forget about you and soon, your business account will stop showing up on their feed.
Every time you post on social media, you refresh the memory of your fans. Get interactive:
1. Put up polls and quizzes. Ask for their opinion on things that aren’t directly promotional, but skirt around your target topic. For instance, if you’re a bicycle seller, your quiz can focus on health and sports.
2. Ask them if they have a wishlist. This can be directly related to your business. If there’s a certain kind of product that they would want from your shop, you’ll know.
3. Your posts should strike a balance between entertainment, education and promotion. Too much of promotional posts come across as spammy.
4. Post more pictures. Visuals make people stop and take a look more often than written data. Use attractive images. The more eye-catching they are, the higher will be your audience reach. Even if you’re putting up an inspirational quote, put it up as an image, rather than by just typing it out.
While it is important to post frequently, is it essential to keep in mind that you shouldn’t saturate your audience with updates from your feed. Consistency is key.
Post everyday, but restrict your posts to a maximum of 2 updates per day for Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. For Twitter and Tumblr, you can post upto 10-15 updates a day, but these must not be entirely promotional. For all postings, keep in mind the 80:20 rule - 80% should be engagement builders and 20% should be promotional.
