Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

I used to have a pen-pal in South Dakota that I wrote to for over 30 years...

It's very interesting in becoming a part of someone's life by sharing their ups and downs... their joys... their sorrows... things going on in their family life.

What are some of your memorable letter-writing experiences...?

Re: Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

Writing to my husband about my son and our new house while he was deployed, especially during the times when he couldn't get on the internet or call. It made me feel like we were still connected and that I was sitting down to talk to him about my day, not writing a letter he wouldn't read for two weeks.

Re: Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

I've written longer letters, but on my holidays this year I sent two postcards to a lady I met at a nursing home. I wanted to let her know that when my husband and I visit with our dog, that we aren't just volunteering in a generic way, but that she is special and I think of her as a friend. So I crammed a bunch of writing onto a postcard while I was away, and ended it with 'thinking of you'. There were two, and because her eyesight is not great, the staff read them out loud to her during the mail hand-out.
Now when we visit, it's mutual hugs all around; it was one way to say she is a friend and because they were read out loud, everyone else knows she is special too.

Re: Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

Jenn and Ingrid... those are touching stories !!!

Loved hearing all about them... !!!!

Many, many years ago... I was a songwriter and someone from California had heard about a song that I had written. We began corresponding... inserting little cartoons throughout the letters and I eventually wrote a newsletter with all sorts of cartoons throughout it and lots of fun things.

Even folks like Yoko Ono and Cher and other folks in the music field back in the early 1980's received the newsletters. (What they did with them... I will never know...!!)

It's kind of neat... the Power of the Written Word.

: )

Blessings,
Joe

Re: Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

I send handwritten notes to my 7-year-old periodically, out of the blue. Her responses are precious :)

Re: Memorable Letter-Writing Experiences...

When my nephews were small I told them stories of midnight the cat! Later I wrote them letters from Midnight, telling them about recent adventures! They loved it!

moosewinks, that is an amazing idea! I am going to borrow it. My dad used to tell us stories about "Cat and Woomey." He told them to my oldest daughter, and now that he's gone, she tells them to her little sisters. It would be so fun to write them letters from Cat and Woomey, because they do have some excellent adventures!
