Hello & Welcome!

I was amazed that there were no teams dedicated to "Snail Mail" on Etsy.
So, I had to start one. :-)

You may use this thread to present yourself!
You may post your blog/website or any other information that may interest us.

Welcome!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hello! My name is Julie, I'm 32 and snail mail is my life! :)

I've had penpals since I was 9 years old and to this day I still enjoy writing letters. I'm now a stationery designer and I have a blog about penpalling:

Thanks for creating this group, Fanie!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Writing letters is a lost art...

I used to write letters all around the country and would draw little pictures in the letters... like cartoons... It's personal that way. It literally is the closest thing to putting your personality in writing.

Re: Hello & Welcome!

It's my pleasure, Julie. ^-^ I love your blog and work, by the way!

As for me, I used to write letters all the times when I was a teenager. I had penpals from Germany, Sweden & the united states. It was before the internet kicked in! I remember getting my first email from my writing penpal and how it just wasn't the same. :-(

Since I didn' have access to a lot of beautiful stationary when I was a teenager, I would draw on regular business sizes envelopes and personalize them. I remember the post office lady would -love- my letters and she encouraged me in doing more of them. :-)
Oh, and I also drew my own stationary and copied them with a black and white photocopy machine.

I'm still best friend with a penpal I used to have! We just recently started writing letters to each others, again. :-) And we're wondering why we ever stopped in the first place!

I must admit that, during the 2000's era, I didn't write much mail, unfortunately. It's because of groups like the Letter Writer Alliance and hearing about people writing letters again that I started doing it again. :) I realized how much I missed it!

I'm glad you're all joining this group. It's about time we have a team about this on Etsy. ^-^

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hi there.

I just joined and am looking forward to meeting all of you. For quite a while I've been making note cards to keep friends & family abreast of the activity in my backyard.

It took a long while to embrace technology in my household. The speed with which we can find & send information is incredible, but it's all so cold and impersonal. I never thought I'd admit that receiving a handwritten note, whether long or short, would be so wonderful.

Saturday chores are calling but will check back in from time to time.
Have a great weekend!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hey there ... I'm so glad there's a snail mail group now ... we should all embrace this wonderful lost art!

As a teen I had about 30 penpals - my best friend was once my penpal, and I am still in contact with 6 of them. I remember decorating my paper and envelopes which always amused our postman.

As an adult I have 3 penpals that I write to - I still occasionally send snail mail to my old pen pals too.

I also design my own stationary (and also use some of Julie's :)) to download and print ... because I still love stationary!

take care
Polly

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Wow, I am so excited I found this group! My writing chops aren't nearly as amazing as all of you but I am happy to be around kindred souls.

My name is Jenn and I am married to a US marine. We are stationed on Camp Lejeune, NC and have an almost two year old little boy. I have always loved letters and mail and cards. I started writing letters to troops overseas through several different volunteer organizations etc. in high school and collage. When my husband and I met I started writing to him on a regular basis, he was in CA and I was in MN. Soon after we were engaged and as things so often happen in the military he was going to deploy and we had to get married ASAP. I did all of our wedding stationery and one of my favorites were postcards that we designed to have our guests fill out that would be mailed to service members overseas. It was amazing, everyone loved the idea and it made us so happy. He left and while he was gone I tried to write him a real letter once a day and made it about 2/3 through the deployment at that rate. Time went on and it was time for him to go again and I made it about 3/4 the way through this last deployment. So next time I'm sure I'll do even better! I keep in touch by letter as much as possible with the family back home as well.

With my love for letters and party planning stationery was a logical focus for me on Etsy, and I love designing stationery and cards especially for letters!

Well that's my story, sorry this was so long! Can't wait to get involved with this group!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hi Everybody,

I'm Cathy and I love snail mail. I love sending it, receiving it and making handmade cards. I started making cards for my 8 nieces and nephews for their birthdays and other special occasions. I got my 5 year old son interested in mailing letters and cards to his cousins to keep in touch. I do appreciate the digial age but I miss the personal touch that snail mail gives.

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hello! I'm Sarah, 31, from the Flinders Ranges in South Australia.

I thought it might be considered impolite to join and then not introduce myself. ;)

I am an AVID (cannot emphasis that enough) snail mailer who has been writing letters pretty much non-stop since the age of 7. Over the past few years I've been experimenting with mail art and have recently undertaken a 365 Mail Art Project, which if you are interested in following you can do so via my blog (http://sorcha-sidhe.blogspot.com or go straight to http://sorcha-sidhe.blogspot.com.au/p/365-mail-art-project.html).

It's so great to learn that there is a snail mailer's community here on Etsy. :)

Happy corresponding!
~Sarah.

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hi - I'm a new member to the group but as you can see from my avatar love to send & receive by the post. Sorry to see this group has not been too active, but I guess all are too busy with 'real' mail. ;)

I have a mail art & stationery section in my store - http://www.etsy.com/shop/TangleCrafts?section_id=6479072 - and have just (a little pre-emptively!) added some postage stamp badges to my January sale: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TangleCrafts?section_id=5914283

If anyone here with a mail art/diy craft related store would be interested in a promo and/or business card swap, please send me a convo; I would be up for that. :)

Hi, I'm Kathleen. I love mail art and try to put some art on everything I mail, even if it is a few postage stamps of paintings that I've done. I was so happy when I saw this team develop. I can't wait to visit everyone's posted sites, shops and blogs!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Hello I'd like to introduce myself - I'm Rachael and nothing beats a hand written letter especially since moving countries and seeing Royal Mail stamps and English postmarks makes the UK a little closer! I especially love postcards - which are too sadly a dying trend and I love collecting vintage mailed ones - reading the happy messages people sent to each other back in the day. Much better then a text or an email!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

One of the best things about mail is the beautiful stamps that can accompany it! I collect and sell stamps from all over the world, sort them, and repurpose them. My shops sells stamps for crafts!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

I am young, raised on email. Letters are either bills, information from colleges, or ads. Yet every do often, a handwritten letter can be found in my mailbox. And it makes my day.

Since I get so much joy out of letters and cards (not e-cards, mind you), I know that other people do to. Thus, I always write thank you notes. I am quick to write letters of praise. Letter writing is an art. Now I try to write even more to keep the post office in business! I feel so bad that they are not doing well. Let's all do our part and write a letter!

Re: Hello & Welcome!

Really excited to be in the group and meet everyone!
I've only been fully letter writing for about a year, but it's become a heavy addiction.
