Hello dear Team members..

Myself and Mel are putting together some FAQs and some details which will help the first timers and the pro's alike :)

Please feel free to chat - ask anything on this thread.

The main trading thread will be opened on 14th Sep - 8:345 am and the trading will begin at sharp 9 am :)

The how to Trade thread:

a) Shop A likes an item from Shop B
b) Shop A approached shop B for a trade request
c) If Shop B also likes an item from shop A or any item that shop A has to offer then both of them are ideal contenders for a trade.
d) Both shops check the price of the items in question as well as the shipping cost. The total price must match - for instance both should be $30 or $20 or whatever it comes up to. Slight difference can be OK if the shops are OK with it
e) The shops buy each others items from the others shop using the "other" payment option.
f) The seller then has to send the item to the address of the buyer whom they traded with within 1-2 working days or the mutually decided time frame

Here is how to activate the "other" payment option

Go to Your Shop (on the top) > Info & Appearance > Shop Settings (on the left bar)> Shipping & Payment > Payment Methods (on the second option) - check the "other" option - SAVE

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT TRADES:

All trades must take place through Etsy shops. Posts to outside links ARE ALLOWED but we have no recourse when a bad trade happens except to remove them from the team. So whether or not to trade is the choice of the trader. Whereas if a person trades through Etsy, we can remove the shop from the team as well as report an item not received complaint with Etsy.

We realize that it doesn’t make sense to list every little thing you want to trade especially if it’s supplies or destash or something you don’t normally carry in your shop. People are free to send personal convo’s abt anything they want to each other. we suggest them to set up a custom listing if they feel appropriate so that they and the buyer can have some type of recourse in the event of a bad trade.

Some Basic Rules :

1. Etsy TOUs hold over and above everything - so all your actions must definitely adhere to Etsy Rules and Regulations

2. Do not change the prices of your items for the trade. It is perfectly OK to say a polite no to a trade. So do not change your prices to ¢0.01. Etsy REALLY frowns about it. Leave them as is.

3. Please post the transaction links of the trade on the thread after you have traded with someone..

How to find the transaction link of an item you sold:

Go to Your Shop (on the top) > Sold Orders > Click on the image of the item you sold

A new page will open and the top address bar will have a transaction link .

How to find the transaction link of an item you purchased:

Go to Your Account (on the top) > Purchases & Reviews > Click on the image of the item you purchased

A new page will open and the top address bar will have a transaction link .

The transaction links will look something like this - https://www.etsy.com/transaction/149923651

So you need to get the transaction link of your sold item as well as the "purchased" item through the "other" payment option on the discussion board :)

Trading Etiquette's :

a) Approach the shop of the item you like by sending a polite convo - for example..
Hello,
I would like trade your bracelet for anything in my shop.
Please convo back if you are interested..

You can obviously add as many details as you want..

b) If you do not want to trade with a particular shop that has approached you - it is best to send them a polite no , rather than keeping them waiting
For example - Thanks a lot for approaching me, but at this moment I do not see anything in your shop that I can use...

c) Please treat trades like sales - other than not paying actual money - everything else operates the same way . So please do not undervalue a trade sale.

d) We do encourage each trading partner to leave positive feedback as it helps your public profile.

Raffle Prize Details :

a) Each shop is allowed to win only once.

b) The listmaster will come up with any question randomly about general knowledge or any team shop on etsy – totally thier wish. The person who gives the correct answer first wins.

c) Listmasters can also participate in raffle questions and win prizes – but only when they are not asking the question as listmasters

HOW IS THE SIMPLE TRADING TEAM PARTY DIFFERENT :

1. STT offers a double whammy benefit - if you have traded with a shop which is already a featured on the teams BNR / BNS board - then you are allowed to use your trade transaction link as a sale link on the BNR / BNS board - this way you get the number of future rounds - depending whom you have bought from..

2. Not only will the boards get more sales - but you too get a chance to be on one of the fastest growing and highly publicized BNR / BNS boards

3. You can trade for any value - there are no minimums and no rules whatsoever - neither for the party and nor on the boards

4. New Shops - who are not already on the list can join anytime by requesting the listmaster - you don't have to wait to trade as a pre-requisite to join.

5. Listmasters will be randomly promoting your shops throughout the party on the discussion board - this gets you more visibility even during the party

How does the Etsy community gain while trading :

What you gain : - You get an item without actually paying for it. All you spent was the shipping amount.

What you also gain:- A sale from your shop -and a prospective review - which lets more people know that you have made a sale

What Etsy gains :- the transaction and listing fee

Trading Tips :

a) Some people like to brighten and prep up their shops before the actual trade party begins - you should consider doing the same

b) You can always create a "wishlist" treasury containing items from shops that you wish to trade with - it always gives a great feeling plus you can paste the wishlist treasury on the discussion board many times

c) You should try keeping one or two lucrative offers in your shops to get more eyeballs coming your way

d) While communicating with the other shop before finalising a trade - always confirm whether you have exactly understood what product you are going to trade

e) All traders should be very clear about shipping - certain traders may not want to trade internationally - so they should make that clear before the sales or make that clear on the discussion board. Basically shipping preferences must be made very clear.

f) when someone sends you a convo - try and respond as fast as you can.. this goes a long way and makes the other person feel valued

so, as a listmaster, I'm required to ask an etsy-related question as trivia during my time slot? (since i'm also raffling a prize) - and whoever answers first wins that prize?

then once the winner is chosen, do i give you or another leader this info, so the prize listed can be removed from the list?

Hello! I have done trades before, but never a trading party. I would love to participate. Do I join by adding my name to the list of shops interested in trading on the other page? I will donate an item for the raffle too, and I think a gift card is a great idea, so thanks for posting how to do that too!

I have another question. We need to list the gift card we are offering in the raffle as an item in our shop, but later, we will delete that item and just send them a coupon code?

I'm confused about why it is listed as an item when it's actually a coupon and if I'm understanding it correctly.

Sorry for the multiple questions! I'm excited to participate though!

@ Samantha - thanks for this question - its a good one - glad you asked it

The reason we make the listing of a gift card is so that the list master can paste the item link as an upcoming prize while the trade party is on

The reason some coupon donators do not want winners to buy the gift card because winners are not supposed to "buy" anything and also they may want to use the same listing to sell it for other potential buyers.

However, I see how we can solve this confusion -
