New Swap idea's/ or improvements?

Carolyn raised a good point. Why just have swaps for holidays? Why not do them for any theme. Like the color purple, or summer, etc. If you have any idea's for new one's post em here. we need at least 5 people interested to get one going!

Are you wanting to do an all Canadian Swap? Because Im American, so that would defeat your purpose right there, unless you can find a fellow Canadian to do all the repackaging and shipping...

Love the theme idea.

As for the Canadian swap, I kinda like the fact that I am receiving something home-made from another place. I also feel that it would exclude most of the team members and that does not sit right with me. However if the members are asked first and the majority say they don't mind then I would be in. I do not have time until the summer to organize one.

I was thinking the same thing- having some that weren't holidays.
I bet ya all can come up with some super creative themes...

some random ideas from me:

1.a music theme- and include a mix cd with some of your favorite music on it (you would have to make one for each person but would get one from each person PLUS there swap item) the cd part is optional depending on what ya all wanna do.. they are light to ship though;) music inspires creativity in every culture and language.. and you could create something music themed easily no matter your medium... could be open to many possibilities


2. woodland - I am personally obsessed with squirrels and all things woodland and they are trending pretty heavy on etsy still. woodland- think trees, squirrels, foxes, blue skies, racoons, chipmunks, moss, floral, nature themed...

3. weather- this could be fun. anything weather themed- clouds, rain, sunshine, storms, natural disasters.........

4. for him- something for the guys in our lives (this is a challenge for a lot of people and might help people expand ideas for their own shop)

5. twilight- (PLEASE not the movie.. hehe) meaning stars and moons, blacks, sunsets, that kind of thing..

6.I've Never - a swap with items that are not and have never been listed in your shop before... a chance to try out a new media or idea- or to simply show off your many talents. Helps us come up with new ideas and maybe great ideas for the future for our shop as well.

7. local wonders- your items would be themed - loosely or not- around your local region or culture. so everyone's would be a bit different naturally ;)

8. bibliophile - book lovers- literature themed- could be a quote or inspiration from one of your fav books- or more literal.

9. recycle, up-cycle, ecofriendly, etc -

10. geekery - star wars, star trek, doctor who, nerdy stuff, mario and nintendo themed, etc, etc


again these are just some random ideas.
one of the things i would like considered is the time we have to make our items. if we gave people a bit longer from the time we signed up and closed the sign up to the time our items have to be arrived I think it would encourage creativity and people to sign up. since these swaps are not limited to the number of people they could get very large quickly and unexpectedly... and I personally would rather wait a bit longer to get my items and have them be nicer, than rushed. Not saying anyone rushed theirs, but ya all get the idea.
Also I would say that all my ideas are meant to inspire- to be taken literally or less literally- it would be open to the person how to interpret the theme.
Would love to here what ya all think.

P.s if the team decided to go this way I DEF might have some new people from one of my other teams who may be interested... :)
To keep it even more ETSY themed- maybe we could also create a treasury in that theme? So after you sign up we would post a new thread and the signed up people would post at least one treasury in that theme to the thread. Helps to encourage activity and treasuries help get traffic flow to your own shop... :)

Oh i would make the suggestion of maybe giving people 2 weeks to sign up and a month to have their items made, shipped, and received to be remailed. since they won't all be around a holiday maybe we could have more time. This is just MY suggestion though, and I would love to hear what you all think

I would totally love that too. With the past few we did they were all pushed back to back making a month processing time hard to do. Im completely on board with that, easier on me as well. (I had no idea that there were 4 Holidays within 3 months of eachother. Valentines, Mardi Gras, Saint Patricks, Easter)

I love all the suggestions Vee made, especially the last one about having 2 weeks to sign up and longer time to make things. Most of my items take a day or two to make so longer time to make things and shorter time to worry about how many to make would be fantastic.

I signed up for 4th of July and had to wait until the end of last week to sign up for the Mother's Day swap because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get everything done on time.

I especially liked the nature ideas and books! I love books! I surround myself with books, I read just about anything (but I have not and probably never will read Twilight).

I had also thought of animals, I love all animals
Old movies - I'm a huge old movie fan
Old crafts -- I am in the process of learning to tat and really appreciate the work our ancestors did to to add a little glitz and glamour to their lives. It takes forever to tat a doilies, at least it takes me that long.
The other thing I thought of today goes along with Vee's recycle/upcycle idea -- items made using empty toilet paper rolls/ paper towel rolls. I just made holder for all my pens/pencils and paint brushes out of empty toilet paper rolls.

I am -- used to sneak out of work early on Saturday's to catch Star Trek reruns!!! Over half of the 5000 books I have are scifi!! I also like paranormal you know ghosts!

I picked animals.. wanted to pick woodland, but realized I could do - or might get woodland animals in that category too so it kinda worked out!
I'm super excited everyone!

P.s the toilet paper rolls.. OMG I had 3 GARBAGE bags of them -large ones- and donated them to a animal sanctuary near me. It was crazy though saving them all... So, i love the idea, but I personally would prob not do that one. It just creates a mess at my messy home ;) However, I'd love to see anything you all have do or would create with them. I work with kids and always need ideas to do with them....
