Advice on Fraud Fundraiser Auctions

Hello,
I have received several fundraiser emails asking for me to donate an item. It is on the same item (a military themed one). I have heard of scams that used this technique. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this?

I would love to donate something to help out and to get my items out there, but I don't want to be "scammed" either.

I pass on all online fundraisers..most if not all will be fraudulent. There are plenty of opportunities to donate to your local organizations that you know are legitimate =)
