Stationery shop - which items should I add?

Hello all,

I am still very new to Etsy, and I wanted an updated critique of my shop. I made changes via previous suggestions, but still no sales yet. I know I need to add more items but I'm not sure what items to add, any help? Which stationery items/cards are you more likely to buy? (holiday cards, typography posters, wedding stationery etc.)

Also I'd love to have suggestions on any other things my shop could improve on. Thank you!

Re: Stationery shop - which items should I add?

Hi Kayla,
Yes, more items! And ready made items. People want holiday cards, ready to ship. Holiday and seasonal do well with cards and gifts.

I'd be turned off by the 1-2 week processing time for a holiday card. But then, I don't do what you do. Your gold Thanksgiving card is beautiful, but someone would have to order it way ahead of time to enjoy them.

With custom options like a message inside the card, how do people add them? Do they type the message in "notes to seller"? This is for the holiday card. I see you work one on one with wedding sets, which are lovely.

Other than that, tags look good. I'm sure there are people who are better with the seo aspect of listings.

Have you worked with clients already? People unfamiliar with how you work may want to see testimonials or other finished products. I really like what you have already.

Eh, hope this helps. Just keep building it up.
All the best! And stay on top of upcoming holidays. How bout a sampler card pack of obscure holidays? National Coffee Day, Talk Like a Pirate Day......

I second the obscure cards idea! I absolutely love those and when I shop for cards on Etsy it's usually for weirder things like that that I can send my friends and family members. Normally the 1-2 week thing wouldn't be an issue, but with the holidays approaching that may be off putting to some. Just something to think about! Beautiful products, looking forward to seeing more.

Re: Stationery shop - which items should I add?

Hi there! Your work is beautiful! I love how your pictures are organized for your wedding package and the beautiful pictures you took for your holiday card. I would try to add a lot more to your shop tho! More choices, the more you have the greater the chance that someone finds one of your listings among thousands! I love how you can make a custom illustration of the bride and groom that's amazing!! However, the package starts $250 for a digital copy. I don't do what you do, so I don't know what it takes to make something like that, I'm sure it's very time consuming but I think $250 is quite a lot of money for just a digital copy. That being said, you do offer a lot in that package! So maybe an idea would be to break that package up a little bit. Maybe have a listing for just the invite with the custom illustration? Something like that. I don't know if that would work for you but you would be able to appeal to more price points that way! I'm engaged and the $250 just isn't in my price range but maybe a save the date or the actual invitation could be! I just can't get over the custom illustration!! That's such a selling point!! I would definitely capitalize on that!

Best of luck!

Re: Stationery shop - which items should I add?

Hi Kayla!

I know it's been said but more items do create more traffic to your store. However, your shop is VERY new so don't sweat it! I have been open since September and only have a few sales myself. I find it hard to get as much stock up as I know I need but just remember eventually you will get there!
I also agree that your pricing seems a bit high...do you have a formula for what everything costs? If not, I found creating a spreadsheet with costs of my materials, hourly wage and Etsy fees helped a lot to really understand how much I should charge. You can also check around similar shops and make sure you're not too far above in prices. If someone can get something similar for less trust me they will do it!
That being said I don't know the pricing for your type of product so if you are priced accurately then I think just patience is needed!

As far as what other items to sell, I love stationary shops that have theme sections. Such as holidays, thank you cards, get well cards etc. You can have a lot of fun creating both beautiful cards and funny cards in each theme!

Good luck!

Wow! Thanks everyone, those are some great tips! I also really like the idea of the obscure holiday cards. I will work on re evaluating my pricing and adding more items. It's very good to know that I seem to be on the right track though! Thanks again!

Re: Stationery shop - which items should I add?

Hi Kayla!

I agree with everyone. You need to have a section of other days such as Bosses Day, Grandparents Day, Secretaries Day, etc. More items are also needed (I have to add more to my shop also).

In the Wedding Section, I noticed that the suite doesn't say how many of each of the 4 items are provided for the price.

Just a few suggestions for you. I always welcome suggestions on my shop also.

I wish you the best of luck!
