Follower Boosting Tips

One thing I have noticed in critiquing 3 shops is that the owners did not have any followers to speak of. I am not saying that they are the most important part of your marketing, but they are important to get you views in the Activity Feed. Here are some tips that we use on my team to help improve those numbers.

FOLLOWER BOOSTING TIPS

• ETSY allows you to follow 1080 members.
• Clean out your following list by unfollowing ones who are not helping you with your goal of sales. Start at the last page of people you are following. Delete those with less than 1000 followers or whose favorites are private. Another group to delete are those whose favorites are less than 3 times their followers.
• Choose a member of your teams who has a large number of followers and go to their page. You can start with the Captain and the Leaders.
• Open their Profile and click on FOLLOWERS
• Choose from their list and FOLLOW people from their list who have a minimum of 1000 followers and thousands of favorites until you again have 1080 you are following.
When following someone, open their shop and favor it and a few items. This might get their attention. Hopefully about half will follow you back.

• USE the ACTIVITY Feed:
1. FAVOR EVERYTHING in sight, not just what you like. Boosting your number of favorites will encourage members to follow you
2. When people favor you, favor back.
3. Do this at least twice a day until you reach your goal of followers. Do more if you have time.

I like the spirit of this post, but I disagree strongly that you should favor everything you see. I love browsing my activity feed, so I follow people who show me great things. I would quickly unfollow anyone who was flooding my feed indiscriminately. I do not follow heart-bombers, people who favorite lots of things from the same shop at the same time, or anyone with tens of thousands of favorites.

But I do think it's important to have followers and favorites, and show that you're a part of this community!

Thanks Spacefem! I use these tactics for my new members who have 1 or 2 followers. What they do after they reach the desired number for some of our team threads is totally up to them. We found that this works, but in checking some of your other advice, I will change some of it. I love the followback app you left. I have a LOT of returning to do!!

do followers usually equate to sales? I often find that I follow things that i want to look at, and just buy what I want to buy...thoughts?

Followers are valuable if they get your products and your name into the home feeds of potential customers who might not otherwise become aware of you. If they follow but then never interact with you or your shop (or if they do but no one follows them), they're pointless. However, this is the sort of thing that is usually most valuable when it happens somewhat organically.
