A Bit of Help, Please

The main thing that I would like help with is my descriptions. I feel like they're too long, but I'm not sure how to write them better. Maybe a bulleted list? What would you prefer as a shopper? What could I change or remove from my descriptions to improve them? I know that my product photos are all over the place, but I can't walk right now and can't do anything about them at this time.

Thanks for your help :)

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

Such a cool idea! I know you said you can't walk currently, but when you can, I would suggest taking a picture of your items in some sort of nature setting, since they are inspired from nature. Maybe find a good log with some moss as a background or something similar. It would really make your pieces stand out. Onto what you can do now. For your descriptions, they are pretty much long paragraphs that can be downsized. I like the detail you go into, just do a bit of categorizing to go along with it.

For example:

"This unisex bracelet measures about 7 inches around and closes with a silver tone (nickel free) toggle clasp. This bracelet also has a 1.5 inch extender chain so you can change up the length from day to day (or from day to night). This bracelet is a stunning one-of-a-kind piece that is sure to turn some heads. It's a cool one-of-a-kind bracelet that will remind you that you're going to rock your day."

Could be redone into something like this:

This unisex bracelet is a stunning one-of-a-kind piece that is sure to turn some heads. It will remind you that you're going to rock your day!

Includes a silver toned nickle free toggle clasp.

Measurement: Approx 7" circumference with a 1.5" extender chain.

.....

Break it up a bit so that people can find the information they are looking for more easily.

I really enjoy the "why" of each description. It adds character that is lacking from a lot of etsy shops. Maybe just bring the wordiness level down a bit.

For example:

"This is the Mercury bracelet. Mercury is a small and rocky planet, so I have used small lava and pyrite stone beads for this bracelet. Mercury has a huge temperature variation, ranging from −280 °F (−173 °C) at night to 800 °F (427 °C). I made this bracelet with pyrite on one half and lava on the other half to mirror this temperature difference."

to something like this:

- THE MERCURY BRACELET -

Mercury is a small and rocky planet, it also has a huge temperature variation, ranging from −280 °F (−173 °C) at night to 800 °F (427 °C).
Represented in this piece by the mirrored small lava and pyrite beads.

Love your shop! Good luck!

Thanks so much Rose. That's the sort of description I was trying to write but couldn't figure out how to trim it down. I love your ideas and super grateful for the examples :)

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

Hi there! I really like the idea of jewelry inspired by the planets. I would put the most important info first, like the size, and the materials used. Also, I think it might help if you repeat 1 or 2 relevant keywords from the title in the description, a SEO tip I read about.

Here's how I would rewrite the description for the Mercury earrings. You don't have to take any of this, it's just my ideas.

THE MERCURY EARRINGS -

The Mercury earrings are very lightweight and easily transition from day to night.

Features: Silver plated french ear wires, completely nickel free, simple statement earrings (Something here about the stones used, and the inspiration involved in using them.)

Measurement: 1.5" from top of ear wire

Mercury is a small and rocky planet with a huge temperature variation, ranging from −280 °F (−173 °C) at night to 800 °F (427 °C).
These earrings represent that variation with small lava and pyrite beads.

Message me your choice of styles when you order two pairs, default is one pair of each Lava on Top and Pyrite on Top so you can mix and match

Your order will arrive in a kraft paper jewelry box, ready to gift or add to your own jewelry collection.

This piece of statement jewelry is part of the Cosmos Collection, my jewelry collection which is inspired by the beauty and wonder of outer space.

I'm not sure if that was helpful, but I hope it was! To me, it's mostly about placement of information, and really highlighting the benefits to the customer.

I actually love your descriptions. For me the more you describe it the clearer it is in what I'm going to receive. Also, I love your banner. Very nice work - gives a great vibe to your shop.

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

I love the "frequently asked questions" section at the end of your descriptions. How do you create those?
I have a few suggestions: I like that you included hands in the photos to give an idea of the scale of your jewelry, but I wonder whether something else might work better to also show the scale? Also, as far as your descriptions go, I, personally, would rather not read about the "why" of how it was made. Other buyers might though, so it's just my opinion! Good luck!

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

I just learned how to add frequently asked questions two days ago. You just go to your shop page and click Edit Shop at the top and then if you scroll all of the way down you can add frequently asked questions.

I guess I could use a ruler to show scale. By the why of how it was made, do you mean the inspiration behind the piece? My sales have actually been way better since including that.

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

Thanks, Jessica.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that your sales increased. Maybe just the wording of the inspirations could be improved. For example: "I made this a pretty long necklace (18 inches long) because Neptune is a large planet." Might be better to be more specific, such as relating the scale of Neptune compared to the other planets with the scale of this necklace related to your others? Just an idea.

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

I agree with everyone above. I think your descriptions are really cute. I would keep them short if I were you. When I click on an item and it's a page of words I have a tendency to not read it all the way through. Just keep it descriptive but short. I love the idea of taking some images outdoors and getting great light! With that said though I have a photographer friend who showed me how to edit images on my phone to make them look better. Not that my images are amazing but for being taken on a phone not bad I think. Just play around with the exposure and light settings. For example the ones where you show earrings on the white coffee cup you could probably edit those to make them look brighter and sharper just with an app!

Also some of your prices seem low to me. There was a gorgeous ring on there for $10 Crystal Eye Wire Ring. I think your time is worth way more than that! Seeing $10 makes me think maybe it's cheap or not well made so I might pass it up. I think I would more likely purchase it for $30. Maybe try bumping up some of your prices. Give your self a raise :)
Good luck! Hope you are on your feet soon!

Re: A Bit of Help, Please

Thanks Natalia, I actually have Photoshop so I can edit those photos and make them brighter. I took your advice and did raise the prices on my rings. I used the same pricing formula that I use on my other pieces but I didn't take the perceived value into account. That's a great point.
