Cat Toy seashell design advice

I am working on a prototype for a catnip cat toy and I'm wanting some feedback. http://hermitcrabfoodtrials.blogspot.com/2016/05/crochet-hermit-crabs.html I want to sew this crochet hermit crab onto a fabric pouch filled with really potent catnip and add a crinkle element for noise interest. I'm wondering if the buttons might get chewed off and swallowed. I'm also wondering if there is a market for natural colored pet toys because so much out there is bright and bold. I may try some versions with sisal and jute too. I know crab enthusiasts will love the pattern, but would a CAT LOVER want a hermit crab toy? Any feedback welcome!

What a cute idea! The pattern is really spot on.
Here's what I saw. A solid color shell with eyes. Could you make a contrasting colored outline of the shell or different colored crab head? Buyers quickly glance over items and select the ones that stand out. If not bright colors, you may need to do just a little bit more detail work so that buyers can immediately tell what it is.
I know that my cat would roll all over that. You may consider felt eyes instead of buttons.
And yes....this pattern will make a cute coaster....I should know!
Hope this helps.

Re: Cat Toy seashell design advice

I went into serious production this weekend and I'll be posting my creations soon. But I had a great idea (building on a suggestion made here) to offer to stuff it with lavender instead of catnip which would make it useful as a sachet. I have made a considerable investment in supplies at this point, but I think it will pay off in a big way. I'm really pleased withe the design. And I have created a great concept for packaging the cat toy.

Re: Cat Toy seashell design advice

Hi,

I have (3) kitties and it has always been my habit, that once I get a new toy home I will pull off anything easily to fall off (ie. fabric mice often have "glued" on felt / button eyes and tails that can easily be pulled out). I have seen some with embroidered on type eyes and these are kitty-safe.
