In need of a critque...

I am fairly new to Esty. At least as for myself. I used to work with someone who owns a shop that is doing quite well.

I have been open a month now, and I have had a lot of traffic...about 100 visitors a day on average, but no sales as of yet.

I am very limited in what I can do. For instance, my pictures are done with a cell phone camera. I have made jewelry for years, but due to being declared disabled 6 months ago and no income I decided that I had to do something to make ends meet, and this was something I wanted to do, just had been putting it off.

I was told that it would be better to get some things uploaded and out there, than just having them sitting around, even though I don't have all the "good" equipment for photographs. I also am not sure if my descriptions are ok.

So, any advice, help, constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dana

Re: In need of a critque...

Well, I need a tutorial then because I LOVE your pictures and that is one thing that my shop really needs improvement with and I'm fresh out of ideas. Your jewelry is gorgeous and I've got my eye on a set of earrings for my mom's birthday in March. lol

You pics are great. I love the variety of props used. I think your pricing is good. I didn't really undersand the comment on your store description about the store opening later in 2013??? Is it not open now or is there just more to come?

Love your store. Best of luck and I may be ordering in the near future. :-)

Re: In need of a critque...

Hi Jessica:

Thank you. I was really worried that because of the cell phone that my pics were not that good. It doesn't help that I have a monitor from the 1990's, so I am sure it looks much worse to me than most. LOL.

I haven't made a sale yet, so I am actually offering, in addition to my 30% off, a free item valued at $20 or less to my very first etsy customer. I also ship same day if I get the order before 3 pm pacific time, and next day if I receive it after.

I do need to take that part of my message off...when I opened the store I only had 3 items, so I didn't want my shop over looked because of the minimal inventory.

Thank you for responding, and looking forward to helping you out with your gift for your mom :)

Best Regards,
Dana

Your store looks good... your pictures look good, your prices look good... if I were to change anything it would be that some of your jewelry should be staged. You should have someone model them, some people can't picture what jewelry will look like on them until they see it on a model. Maybe a hand and forearm to show off a bracelet, a close up on a neck for a necklace, etc.

Re: In need of a critque...

Hi Dana,

You must have a really good cell phone, I would have never known these pictures were taken with a cell phone if you didn't mention it.
I think the only things you need to change are your titles, tags and since there are so many jewelry sellers on here you should add more items. The titles seem a little awkward to me and the tags, I've heard you can do better in searches when there are two or three words used together instead of just a single word.

Charles:

I am hoping to be able to buy a mannequin or similar here in the near future, for that. I absolutely agree that it is a necessity for the consumer to be able to visualize how it will look on. I just don't have funds to buy anything right now. That is actually why I started a shop on Etsy. I was recently (well it started in 2004) diagnosed with cancer (2nd round) and am now not able to work a 9-5 job, and decided to turn my hobby back into a business (I used to sell at swap meets in Colorado years ago).

Jana:
I dabble in photography, so I know a little...but I saw all the other pics out there and was starting to feel mine were not up to par.

What would be some suggestions you may have for titles/tags? I am definitely working on more items, that is why I have in my Welcome message that I am in a Pre-Grand Opening.

Thank you so much for everyone's input it is so very helpful. And again, if you have ideas for titles or tags it would be GREAT.
