is there such thing as a separate finger guard for the sewing machine?

last spring I sewed through my finger (and the needle broke omg). a pretty traumatic experience but after a few weeks my finger healed up fine. prior to that I hadn't even realized my finger could fit in there!
ever since then I have wondered if there is a secondary finger guard you can get for your machine in addition to whatever "protection" your pressure foot may or may not provide?
currently I use an old school Singer sewing machine (probably about 35-40yrs old? don't know, I "borrowed" it from my mom about 12 years ago).
I am about to buy a computerized Brother machine.
I've looked around the fabric stores, etc and all they suggest is a thimble. well it isn't like I can wear a thimble on every finger! It was my middle finger that ended up where it didn't belong.
I've been MUCH more careful with my sewing since then but I kind of miss not worrying about my fingers getting caught LOL.

I don't think any sort of finger guard actually exists. Maybe an alternative would be a magnetic seam guide? It's basically a square magnet covered in metal withone longer end that you out to the right of your needle to block the fabric from going further to the right. It makes nice straight seams and might help you from being tempted to accidentally get your finger too close.

Oh, my goodness, Amanda! That's something that has occurred to me that could happen. Especially with the serger. I think I get close to doing that by trying to push the fabric near the presser foot. Been trying not to do that....
I haven't heard of anything that would protect fingers either, I agree with Adrienne that a seam guide may help. But if your sewing machine has a computer in it for embroidery you might not want to use a magnetic guide. There are others available. If I hear of a finger protecter of sorts, I'll let you know. Good luck!

Sewing your finger is not very fun.. have done it a couple times myself. Hope your finger is better now. I don't know of anything to prevent it-- other than watching closely-- which I just don't do-- hence running over my finger a few times (you would think I would learn! lol)
