I've built my website on Weebly and pay for their premium services, including eCommerce. Happy to help if I can!

Re: Weebly websites

I have a website at the Pro level, which I love...but don't use it for ecommerce. I wish they offered a free trial for the business plan...

How does tax work? A lot of the services I've come across allow you to apply the tax across all your products. That's fine for a lot of people. But here in NJ a lot of clothing (and certain fabrics and yarns) are tax exempt. The general rule is that if it's functional, it's exempt. If it's decorative, it's taxable. So I need to have the ability to mark certain items as exempt. Can weebly do that?

EDIT: Never mind...it looks like it can.

Re: Weebly websites

Sorry for the delay in responding. Organizing an event for this weekend and crazy busy getting ready for it.

I've been very happy with the Weebly ecommerce. And, yes, Katie, I know you can customize the tax option. Also, if there is something you want and they don't have it, you can request it. I asked for coupon codes when they first launched and now they have them! :)

Re: Weebly websites

Ok......HELP !!!!!
I got my Weebly site up, I think.
I had the site pw protected while I was designing it and have since removed that. However, I still can't hit Publish and then share it with Facebook. Every time I try, it just says "This site is pw protected" on my fb page.
Weebly says it's because the site was published first with the pw protection and I have to go to fb and use their "URL debugger".
Tried that and it won't accept my store URL.
Also, if I search the net for papercreationsbydeb.com it will pop up, but, again, says "this site is pw protected". If I click on the link it does take me to my shop, but, how do I get rid of the message so people will click on it.

See, NO computer skills whatsoever. I can, however, rewire your entire house and repair any refrigeration unit ever made. All licensed and vetted. I can also wire for a smart house, just don't ask me to do any code on your appliances!

Re: Weebly websites

I'd like to look into the premium package - but I have a question (or six, lol)

First, do they have any kind of pay by the month deal? Or a free trial? All I am seeing is to prepay for 6 months or longer - not sure I want to do that until I see how it fits with me and my items.

Re: Weebly websites

I don't know about anyone else's experience, but I had to pay for a year.
Sorry Deb, I can't help you, I had my son help me with most of mine.

Re: Weebly websites

Easy one to answer first... I have not seen a pay by month deal. However, you can suggest it to the programmers. A free trial is a great idea, from their end, to get people to try it out.

Harder answer... I searched the support articles and cannot find anything about removing the password protection or problems in doing so. Googled it to no avail. All I can see is to be sure none of the 'locks' show on your individual pages and then try turning off the password protection again. Beyond that, it sounds like a bug the programmers would have to address. Having never password protected my site, I'm at a loss.

Re: Weebly websites

OK
After a little hair pulling, some screaming, and, maybe, a little crying that I'll never admit to, I was able to find a way to get the "This site is protected" off my URL and can now share my site with Fb.

When I had the site pw protected while I was building it, I hit "Publish" and then "Share". This caused Fb to capture my URL as a password protected site. Removing the pw protection on my store did not affect how Fb saw my URL. As far as they were concerned, my site was forever pw protected.

The prevention:
1. Never publish your Weebly store while the pw protection is still on. Never.

The cure:
1. After removing the pw protection, go to http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
and enter the new URL.
2. Hit "debug"
3. You should see all sorts of information about your store pop right up.
4. WAIT. Don't republish and share your store right away, I waited a couple of hours for everything to reset. (Yes, I didn't wait the first time I did this and it still showed the site protection).
5. Publish and Share your store. Voila!! My store is now shared on Facebook.
Happy Dance !!

Re: Weebly websites

That was a pain to have to do, Deb, but congratulations on figuring it out. I never knew FB had that area!

I've had some problems with weebly losing links, but it may be because I'm still at the Starter level (cheapskate) using PayPal buttons. They don't have any easy way to upgrade. I have a few hundred items listed, so conversion would be really time-consuming.

I like the look, however. http://www.yaybeads.com/shopping.html

Re: Weebly websites

Yay, your shop looks awesome!
What do you mean "easy way to upgrade"? I can't image it wouldn't be a seamless switch from one level to another.

Re: Weebly websites

Wow, Deb, great information, if not a painful way to learn it!

I'm not sure how seamless the upgrade is as I did Etsy until I upgraded and then built my store from scratch on Weebly. So, I've never tried the actual switch over from selling at the lower level to the premium level.

Re: Weebly websites

Sorry for the delay in answer, Deb. When they unveiled the new shopping cart, I talked to their techs. They had no easy way to upgrade to the new shopping cart except to manually re-enter all the prices (deleting the old "buy now" buttons). That's a moot point now because if you create a new shop, you just enter the information into their table and it looks pretty straightforward.

I need to put some more work into SEO for YayBeads.com and then bite the bullet and upgrade.

Re: Weebly websites

If you think you'll upgrade, I would recommend upgrading and then building your store. I've heard the same thing that Yay says about it not being easy to reconfigure the old into the new.
