Table Skirts

I'm tired of using plastic table cloths as a skirt for my shows. (I use the plastic one as a skirt and then I have a actual table cloth that goes over the top) So I want to make my own. What fabric did you use to make your table cloths?

Re: Table Skirts

I actually bought table clothes on clearance at Target and then used those to make my own fitted table clothes. I would recommend something part cotton and part polyester - something washable and that you don't have to iron.

Re: Table Skirts

Hi Rebekah... a little off topic but I noticed you're from Trinity Texas! I live in conroe texas right now and I am starting to search out craft shows to sell at. Which shows do you like the most? I would love a list or site that you use to find shows in this area!

Re: Table Skirts

Hey Rebekah!

I made my own from clearance tablecloths at Joann Fabrics. It worked, looked good, but was a pain to make. I backed them with plain broadcloth and used velcro to attach to the edges of the table. On top of that I used a heavy weight brushed twill as a drape, with the points hanging down in the center of each side (does that make sense?). I decided to take it up a few notches and am getting fitted covers made from the brushed twill by Carol at Tablecloth Diva:

The brushed twill is great - 100% cotton, machine wash and dry, wears like iron and folks like the soft finish. Plus my items do not slide easily on it, which is a plus. It is a bit heavy, if that is a concern with packing and carrying stuff. Hope this helps!

Re: Table Skirts

Better half made mine from painters drop clothes that I bought at Home Depot. She then fitted them to my table. They are a light tan in color and washable. That's a big one for me, washable - another words, toss them in the washer machine, add soap and I'll see you when you stop making noise. The same for the dryer, bake until done.

Re: Table Skirts

I found an online shop that sells banquet skirting and got them on sale with free ship. They are ivory in color and wash beautifully. They are lined with velcro all around the top and there are clips that you attach to the edge of your table that you press the velcro to. My table cloths are a light gold color.

I found that the skirting was about 3" too long for my tables. I didn't want them to drag on the floor, so my husband made some extenders from pvc pipe that I insert my table legs into. This raises the height of my tables even more and looks really nice. The skirts are 17' long and completely wrap around my 6' tables. I can hide all my bins underneath and it makes for a neat looking booth.

Re: Table Skirts

I made my own out of beige poly-cotton and made them with fitted corners so they fit the tables perfectly. (wash to preshrink before cutting) I made the back flaps separately so I can easily open the back and hide my stuff underneath the tables.

If they get wrinkled in my tubs from show to show I just fluff them in the dryer for 10 minutes with a damp towel.

I also throw fishnet over the top of my tables, like a table topper. It fits my beachy and shelly motif. I think the fishnet adds a 'pop' without being distracting.

Re: Table Skirts

I made mine out of "butter suede." I think that fabric is also called alova, but I'm not sure. I chose it because it is soft and velvety, but much cheaper than velvet, and the edges don't fray, so I didn't have to hem the bottom.

Re: Table Skirts

I made a full tablecloth (with rounded corners) that goes to the floor on all four sides from some very wide quilting muslin. I change the top cloths with the seasons. It was inexpensive but does require ironing. I try very hard to keep it clean and to fold it neatly and place it on a hanger after a show so I don't have to wash and iron it before every show. I have used it for many many years but have made numerous other toppers. I'm aways glad I have it to start with and I can stash a lot under the table no matter how it sits.

Re: Table Skirts

And, I am getting a custom banner made here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/79912247/happy-birthday-banner-bunting?ref=shop_home_active

I've never had a banner before, so I thought that this would be a great addition!

Re: Table Skirts

I use sheets! They stand up to laundering, are cheaper per yard than fabric and come in any color theme you are going for.

Re: Table Skirts

I made mine, similar in design to a bed skirt. I used white fabric for the top, and gathered dark green fabric for the sides. Then I throw a nice table cloth over the top. They've been washed and dried so many times now that ironing isn't necessary!

Re: Table Skirts

I bought my table cloths at Target. They were inexpensive and go all the way to the floor on all 4 sides of my table so that I can hide empty boxes, my gift bags and extra inventory.
After a show I throw them in the wash and I'm done.

I purchased my banner (2 actually) from Vistaprint really cheep. They match my business cards and is super easy to hang. Plus I was able to create my own logo for both. Everything matches. Looks great!

Re: Table Skirts

I love this thread! I have been trying to decide how to make/buy a decent table cover without spending a lot. Lots of good ideas here. I think I may go with the bedskirt.. I have one on a table at home already that I use in my office. The queen size fits around three sides and I would just have to alter the back side - seems easy enough!

And Rebekah and Casi - I am from Spring!! Small world that we are all so close by.

Casi - have you ever been to 7 Acre Wood in Conroe? They have seasonal events where vendors are invited. You can sign up for their email notifications. Also, there is team on Etsy for the Houston area: https://www.etsy.com/teams/9904/the-houston-creators-team
Not terribly active online, but has some great networking opportunities online. They have a shop space in the Heights where you can rent a spot for a booth on the weekends. Pretty cool!

Re: Table Skirts

I listed one Houston team, but this is the other that I am a part of too (for others local to our area). This is actually the one that has the shop space on the weekends. https://www.etsy.com/teams/12337/houston-handmade-guild

Sorry for the mix up. Both good teams to join if you are here in the Houston area!

Re: Table Skirts

Yes! I had pink ruffled tablecloths. We'll have to convo one another and exchange local craft show information. Casi and I are always looking for new ones to go to.
