Personalized items at show

I sell mostly personalized jewellery. I am interested in doing a show and wondering if anyone had tips on being successful. I can made some "generic" stuff, but I am a small vendor and would hate to "waste" my supplies on creating generic items that if they dont sell I cannot reuse to make a personalized item. It is not feasible to make the items at the show as it is noisy to stamp and I will be buy myself - do people "place orders" at shows?
Thanks!

Re: Personalized items at show

I was next to a vendor who made small hand stamped metal necklaces. She had some items there ready to purchase but most of her sales were personalized. She had a pad of order sheets 5x7 with duplicates that she took orders for. She then shipped them to the customer after they were made.
You have almost 50 items in your shop, that was more than she had in her display. Take everything you have and write up special orders.

Does it take a long time to do really simple things like a pre-strung round pendant on a chain that you can just stamp one letter into? If not, that might be something that people would like to see made right in front of them. I know I would.

Re: Personalized items at show

People do place custom orders at shows. You should make sure to get a down payment so people don't decide to back out later.

I think people like to see stuff being made. You might want to reconsider your decision. I wouldn't worry about all of the noise. You may find that it attracts more people. I don't know how much equipment you need, but you should consider taking enough to be able to make one or two of your most popular styles. If the show is slow, you'll have something to do. If not, you can go with your custom order idea.

Many people would like to see how their jewelry is made and they do place orders at shows. If your concern is the noise that your machine creates, you can take orders then mail the orders when it's done. Full payment should be required for these orders since the item is custom made.
