You'll want to use fewer tags with more keywords in each tag.

Your goal should be to get traffic from specific keyword
phrases, as it will give you more targeted traffic
that converts better i.e. more sales in the long run.

You also might want to include types
of bags in the titles and when you do
have it as the second or third word of the title

example format would be-
adjective (type of bag) bag- description

similar suggestion with the tags, try to consolidate and have
tags that target keyword phrases.

If someone searches a single keyword and it's part of your tags
it should be the same as having it by itself from
everything I've seen.

With your titles though,
I'd recommend not structuring them like tags.

Titles are headlines, yes they're there for SEO
but they are also for grabbing a Customer's attention!

Make sure you're doing both, b/c if you show up first
in a search, but fail to grab the customer's attention,
it's all for nothing.

@Troubadori, try targeting natural necklaces/jewelry & native american necklaces/jewelry in your titles & tags.

Make sure you have well targeted tags that are very descriptive.

You want to make your tags multiple
words that are very descriptive.

More tags does not mean better rankings.
Well targeted tags means better rankings.

Find out what people are searching
for by looking at the Etsy Search bar as
you gradually type in items relevant to your shop.

You will want to have your titles target the keywords
that you are trying to show up for (example: cocktail ring)
BUT
please remember, broad searches means more competitors,
which means more competition and less success.

Also, quick advice on paintings, there is a market it's like you said, you just need to be FOUND.

You need to use all of the "goods" Social Media, blogging, SEO, etc.

I know it's tough to learn it though, so I'd honestly just say signup for the newsletter, b/c It'll be an easy source to learn from

I have heard of algorithm but not completely what they are.


One other thing is that I realized not to long ago that the visual arts such as fine arts, paintings, photography, etc. are really different then say knitted hat or something like that. I have been looking at some successful visual art sites and most of them have the name of the actual piece before any phrases like "abstract art", in there titles. I think it is such a visual thing that many might be looking in the arts section not sure of what they want until they see something they like. Sometimes I notice I even get more views on a piece that has the name of the piece first, then the key phrases after.

Like what WatercolorsByAmy said that she gets all her views from Etsy and none from google searches and I noticed in my shop states that probably less then 1% of my views are from google searches. The key words I use do show up on Etsy searches just not google.

Any thoughts on that?

An algorithm is just a fancy term used to describe a list of instructions
used to calculate something.

In the case of Google, it is calculating which pages are the best match for a search query.

Google views are probably really low because the phrase "abstract art" and various other styles of art are pretty competitive on Google. Which would mean it's really hard to get into the top 3 ranking spots (the top 3 ranking spots receive over 70% of traffic)

I'd completely agree on the visual aspect when people look through the art section.
My guess is that people probably tend to scroll more there as well, since art is something that is typically picked through for the "right one" instead of just picking the first possible result.
