Repurposing a quilted coat - sewing help!

Hi all,

I'm hoping there are some sewing gurus out there who might be able to help!

I've rescued a vintage quilted Mulberry coat that can't be worn as is anymore. I was hoping to turn it into a handbag or something, but don't know where to start looking for inspiration (or a rough pattern that I can follow). Does anyone have any suggestions how I could start?

Alternatively, if you have any others ideas of what I could turn the coat into, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks in advance!

Can you post a photo? Might spark and idea or two. How thick is the fabric and do you hand or machine sew?

Re: Repurposing a quilted coat - sewing help!

Hi Sue, thanks for the reply! I left the coat at a friend's house until I can think of what to do with it, but I'll take a picture soon if that helps spark some ideas! It seems fairly thick to me as it was a winter coat, but it's lightweight (if that makes sense).

I machine sew, but never used quilted fabric before so I'm a bit nervous!

Thanks again :-)
