Starting a Business in Alabama

Hello All!

I am just starting out and wanting to start my business in Alabama. I sell handmade cards and my goal would be to sell them on the internet, at art festivals, and at local shops. Can anyone give me some direction as to what I need to do legally?

I have heard conflicting messages that I do/do not need to register my name with the state. Also, I think I am a sole proprietorship, right?

I got a sales tax id from the state ( you can apply for one on the department of revenue site) & then got a business license from the city.

I also got a EIN from the federal govt ( not sure if you have to have one but I got it anyway)

I set up mine as a sole prop.
