New to team

I haven't listed any items that I consider recycled yet, although we use quite a few around the house. Hopefully I'll have some up next year. At the moment I have things that are more 'reuse' I think - vintage buttons being used in bangles (with no destruction of the buttons). They are also partially biodegradeable, being raffia. The dye unfortunately is probably not a good thing for the environment, but I like the colours I'm getting, so I'm not ready to go all natural.

I'm looking forward to seeing what's out there on Etsy as far as Earth-friendly creation goes. I've been very disappointed so far to see a lot of red coral jewellery, so it's good to find a team that cares.

Re: New to team

I have dyed my fabric finds with regular dyes, but this summer when I plan on dying fabrics again, I plan on trying out natural dying methods...really sounds fun (and I have to talk my husband into putting a large sink for me too!) .

Re: New to team

I just found this team, and hope that I will find some kindred spirits who find new lives for old textiles. I dye fabrics and clothing. I've been using synthetic dyes and started growing plants for natural dyes. But my first few experiments with them were not a great success. There's always next summer.

Re: New to team

Hi all! :)
My name is Wendy, I live in Belgrade, capital of Serbia (Europe). I design and make bags and accessories. Very often I use (recycle) old clothes, especially when it comes to batik, since it is impossible to buy it here. I also love using old jeans. What really makes me happy is that I have friends in a tailoring workshop and they give me all scrap materials that they would otherwise throw away. I use them for making lot of things eg. flowers and applique.
Here on Etsy I have only one small part of my works, but you can see my entire collections on fb https://www.facebook.com/Design.by.Wendy.Belgrade

It would definitely be interesting to hear about people's experiments with natural dyes.

Re: New to team

Hi!
It's been nice looking around this group to see how people are re-using and upcycling their materials. I've been taking clothes that otherwise would have been given to the thrift store and making plush critters from them. Mostly socks, t-shirts, and (my favorite) blue jeans!

Re: New to team

I learned how to refinish furniture as a young girl because my family loved to go to thrift and antique stores to get our furniture. I equipped my first apartment with dishes, pots, pans, glasses and many other needs from garage sales and thrift stores. I still believe that you use and reuse and then recycle whatever you can. It's not that I don't like new things, it just seems like a waste to reinvent the wheel. Come check out my shop to see my vintage and recycled purses!

Re: New to team

Hi, I'm new to this team and love the amazing information, tips and interesting threads here! Before any of my clothes go into the donation heap I have to make the decision if it will continue it's life in it's original form or if it will take a new creative journey.

Re: New to team

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this team too, I'm still sort of fudging around trying to find my way around teams, discussion threads, posting more than one item at a time, coupon codes and what the hell is 'BNS' when its at home. Anyway Im in the recycling and rehashing game, theres no real plan, just like to morph and transform old tat into beautiful tat! Good luck to everybody with a global conscience!!

Re: New to team

Hello all! I'm new here and will be opening up shop in the next couple of weeks. I make up cycled wool baby pants, shoes, hats, mittens, and babywearing items. I'll be getting clothing labels (with my name and care instructions), a photog lesson, and other details sorted out soon.

I look forward to any insight anyone has to offer! In particular, the best way to ship wool. Seems usps, but what packaging do you use? Bubble mailers, just plastic, enclose item in a zip-lock? TIA!
