What does RECYCLED ART mean to you?

I thought it would be good to get feedback, which I will use on our blog of just what artists believe recycled art to be.

For me it's creating beautiful art from less than beautiful materials...PeaCe.

thanks , for me it is taking junk, sometimes literally pulling it from the landfill. dumpster (this takes both guts and a fair amount of agility ) and/or from thrift/garage /estate sale venues combined with creativity , found objects.vintage and other vintage items into something new. Giving the item a face-lift transforming it into functional art. Essentially that which has been worked on by the artist , is now safe from the landfill and remains on the planet in its new attire.

I agree with both of you. For me recycled art is the transference of the energy & spirit of an item in a way that allows us to fall in love again with something that we might have otherwise overlooked.

For me, it means taking ugly, stained, and torn sweaters and turning them into beautiful yarn!

For me, it is making use of what is already here "waste" rather than encouraging more production of products that will turn into more waste. Its a vicious cycle.

these are great responses! We as recycled artists define our art...
sometimes I say give it a face lift , it really is finding the beauty in something that others do not, they see garbage , junk , uselessness, we see function, beauty , a new beginning ...we see ART

For me recycled art means not having to go to art craft store and buy canvas ! And it is much more fun too hunt for my found canvas ! And turn road trash basically into something fun and unique !

I think the term junk itself has a wide variety of meanings. Sometimes a piece simply needs fresh paint. At the other extreme someone can work out of a garbage can...cans, bottles, etc. There is an entire junk to trash spectrum!
