what if there were no barriers......

would be interested to know what is the day job that you all do. if it's doing your craft - kuddos. i wish that i could make enough money to stay at home and do nothing but entertain and craft.

i am the front office scheduler for a specialty office at the local clinic. it's alright. i've worked in the medical field for 20+ years.

sure would love to open up a brick and mortar place that would serve free trade coffee and tea and have crafters be able to display their craft.

what are your dreams and aspirations? if there were no barriers - what would you love to do?

Re: what if there were no barriers......

That sounds awesome Viana! I have thought about that before! With no barriers, I would open a super boutique hotel collection in very naturistic places as an ultimate getaway.

I'd also open a boutique store with high-end/quality handcrafted items.

I'd also travel the world with my family.

And I'd also work on all the other business ideas I have in my head.

I guess it's more of a to-do list, lol and a realization of why put barriers in the way of our dreams and just go for it!

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I'm a dietitian. I presently work at a gym and I have very flexible hours so it's alright. It's beginning to be quite busy, as the New Year's resolutions begin.

My dream would be to quit my day job and concentrate on my business. I'm planning on opening two more shops this year in hopes of maintaining a good revenue flow.

A couple of years ago, I used to dream that I opened my own beading supply store (a brick and mortar one). This year, I'm opening my Etsy supply store and wishing I can quit my day job in a year or two.

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I'm a chemistry Ph.D. candidate. My day job will likely be teaching chemistry at a small college.

My hope for my shop would be that it would provide a second income so I can one day be a stay-at-home, homeschooling my kids, and crafting! :)

Re: what if there were no barriers......

yay for dreams!!!! =) thanks for sharing everyone =) Cindy - i homeschooled my girls all the way - so very glad that i did even if it meant sacrificing. but i wouldn't have traded it for the world. now they're grown adults, very well adjusted and out to change the world and realize their dreams as well.

sometimes it's so easy to get bogged down with the day to day and the stress of trying to make business work and crafting work as a business that i stop and allow myself the luxury of dreaming and making sure that i write down my dreams.

Re: what if there were no barriers......

If I could do anything I wanted to do, I'd run a much larger studio and offer classes in weaving, spinning, knitting and crocheting.

I'd also not be nearly as concerned about spending $100 on a single skein of yarn!

Re: what if there were no barriers......

With no barriers at all.... I'd have a B&M Shop with a tea house connected that serves a community breakfast and lunch to our local homeless community. We're over run and shelters here cannot keep up. I'd also make it a point to employ some of these people and to offer crafters a place to showcase and sell their wares.

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I have been laid off from three jobs in three years and run over by my truck and so now I am not working outside the home :).
I would open a B & M store and get more inventory, start a bigger garden, get a bigger house and go off the grid, and have fun.

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I'm currently attending makeup artistry school in order to learn more about applying makeup and therefore be able to sell my product with more ease. My dream is to expand my business online and have a few stores carry my cosmetics. I don't want to have a B&M because I (or someone) will have to be there and that's not what I want. I have given myself a deadline of Aug 31st of this year to quit my job. I'm saving money to do that. No idea if I will make enough, there are talks right now with a local chain (they're moderately big, vegan store, have 5 local store - supermarket kind) that wants to carry my cosmetics. I launched my own website as an advice from my business coach... *sigh* so much patience. But I know I will get there!

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I am an interior designer by day. Although, my job decription has turned further away from actual design and more towards construction designer, which means I spend all day in Autocad drawing details and providing information for a GC to build our design. Gets pretty boring and tedious, but for right now, it pays the bills.

My ultimate goal is to have my little business become full time. I am almost getting to the point where my shop is almost too busy for me to keep up with it in my extra time and still be able to add new product, but not quite making enough to supplement my regular income. I may get to the point this year where I need to just try and take the plunge and see if I can make it work, but in the meantime, my husband and I are trying to pay off as many debts as we can and also save money.

I am also working on getting some wholesale accounts going for a more steady stream of income. If every month was like November, I would quit right now! :)

I love hearing about everyones goals!

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I'm currently a nursery nurse. I was a room supervisor for a while but got sick to death of working my butt of and not being appreciated for anything that I did! I make teaching resources made mostly of felt which aim to make learning multi- sensory and for all styles of learning.

I would love to have my own little nursery in the countryside. With a little house and a good amount of land so we could be outside all day and get dirty and experience nature and life!

Re: what if there were no barriers......

I am still a student - a worried one, unfortunately. My education will come to its end soon, and I know I can't find a job as an archaeologist and linguist in this country. So... I'll try to go abroad and/or open a natural cosmetics shop. Probably :/
