Giving and Recieving Feedback

I'm just curious if anyone else feels this way..it seems alot of times when I sell something or purchase something I don't get any feedback. I am always quick to give the buyer or seller feedback out of respect but feel others don't have the same feeling and don't feel it important to give feedback. It's frustrating for me b/c trying to build a business on this site the feedback is part of customer service; for others to know about your business practices as well as when you purchase from another fellow etsian. Does this need to almost become something that is required if others don't feel it to be necessary to give feedback..

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

Hey Christina,

I totally understand! I do that as well, give my feedback, hoping that they'll notice their scores went up and then give me mine. Some things I can say though, depending on what you're selling:

You usually won't get feedback until after someone has received the item.
You usually won't get feedback until after someone has used the item.
Some buyers are new and don't even know how and where to find the feedback.
Some buyers just honestly forget.
Some buyers just honestly buy and that's about it. No feedback, no anything.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I find that first-time Etsy users are the ones who don't think about feedback. I figure that's just going to happen. For folks on Etsy it is of course easier to ask.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

If you receive 75% feedback on the items
sold that is fantastic. Some customers just don't bother.
We have had very positive convo's on items, asked them to
leave feedback and they don't.
Really think it is wise to leave feedback only after the customer has.

Is it ever appropriate to ask for feedback from a customer?

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

If a buyer who does not have a shop doesn't leave feedback for me, it doesn't bother me so much. They might not understand how important it is to us to have that feedback or may not know how to leave feedback. BUT if I buy from someone here and they don't leave feedback... I think it's poor form on their part. They know better.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I don't think you should ask someone for feedback after the transaction. Maybe you can include it in your shipping notification as a reminder?

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

Holly, I wouldn't ask for feedback. It's irritating for most people. I think when you do your shipping notification is a good time to remind people that they can leave feedback by going to this link: http://www.etsy.com/feedback/awaiting. This link will take them to any items they have that are awaiting feedback.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

Etsy should really make Feedback easier to find. I remember when I first joined it took me the longest to find. Especially since I am auto-logged on and rarely go to the homepage, I had no notification.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I have bought from two esty sellers and provided feedback for them and didn't receive any feedback, and that is upsetting to me. Buyers who do not sell on etsy and don't leave feedback don't bother me as I don't think there is anyway for the to know that there is even an option to leave feedback.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

As I'm new I usually ask for feedback from the customer and just hope it happens. I always give feedback to someone who buys from me.

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I've had several buyers ask where the feedback was...Like I'll get a I love it thank you! email...and I'm going Great please leave the feedback.
I think a lot of buyers especially new ones dont even know it's there.

I've thought about and I think I will edit my shipped/tracking email with a "please leave feedback(found under your accounts tab)"

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I always hope they leave feedback when I get the I love it email, that may be an appropriate time to ask since you as the seller didn't initiate it. I wonder what others think?

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

We have a request in our note to buyer, and again in the email to say their item has been shipped. That's it though, don't want to get all spammy on them!

Re: Giving and Recieving Feedback

I understand your frustration. I always give feedback, as a buyer as well as a seller. Feedback is optional on Etsy, so I guess many people just don't care. I often have first buyers who might not be aware of the feedback option. However, it really upsets me if I don't get a feedback from a seller, because they should know better - shouldn't they?

It's been about two months since I opened my shop and I still don't have a sale :(
Do any of you recomend buying and "Etsy success guide" or anything like that? Please look at my shop and tell me if I can improve something. www.etsy.com/shop/QuetzalShop
I also started a blog http://quetzalprincess.blogspot.com/ , but I don't know how to promote it either

Please help. Thank you.
