Recently, I ordered a few times books from our etsy sellers. It came to my attention that some of the books are heavily fungus contaminated, or heavily soiled. As a book seller, I always keep books clean, that is the minimum for a book seller. I know I am selling goods not garbage.
For those badly contaminated or soiled, it would be highly recommended to indicate clearly in the book description. In addition, if you are a smoker or you have pets at home, it is also highly recommended to let the buyers know. Some people are very allergic to harmless proteins in the pet's urine, saliva or dander (dead skin cells). It is ok for most of the people, but it will, sometime, trigger a serious medical emergency.
My suggestion to book sellers, firstly, please clean your books simply by wipe the visible dirt, spider web et al before going for shipping. Secondly, Let the buyers know whether you have pets at home or if you are a smoker.
As a community, let us work together to make it a better place to sell and buy.
Any thoughts, Please leave your thoughts down here.
Thank you
I agree. This topic has been on my mind, as well. Also mold is a serious health hazard, which I believed (erroneously, as I learned from your post) that everyone knew of. I sell vintage sewing patterns, and am very sensitive to smells around my inventory. My inventory is pre-owned and obtained, for the most part, from estate sales and individuals. Just as with books, tissue patterns are sensitive to the environment in which they are stored. I appreciate your statement that potential buyers should be informed that inventory is from pet free, non-smoking homes, but I believe, as well, that buyers should know that my vintage items have been sourced from well-maintained environments for their life times. I have actually been contemplating exactly how to state that in my listings. Thank you.
