hi there!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group!

I worked with polymer clay when I was younger and my son is now really into it although we have trouble making the most simple things. The only thing I have that is still in one piece is a sheep...

I recently saw a demonstration at a local craft show and am now raring to go again and try making canes and beads etc... Even bought a dvd to help me out a bit...

Any tips will be really helpful. I've just purchased a glass chopping board as recommended by a local crafter as you can work on them and put them straight in the oven without disturbing you work...

Re: hi there!

I work with a ceramic tile as well. I work on my piece on the tile and then straight in the oven it goes so I don't have to transfer it onto anything else.

Also, it's very important to condition the clay very well before making anything. I knead the polymer for about 10-15 minutes until soft.

Make sure you bake your pieces at the temperature noted on the package as well as you bake them long enough.

If you are looking for a good book on Polymer Clay, I recommend The New Clay by Nan Roche. It was the first book written on polymer clay (about 1991). I think it is still an excellent book that will give you basic instructions on a lot of polymer clay techniques.

Re: hi there!

Check your local library for all kinds of polymer clay books, then find out which ones you would like to buy. It worked for me:)

Re: hi there!

Thanks everyone! I have a few books already, 'the art of polymer clay - millefori techniques' 'polymer clay colour inspirations' and 'how to make polymer beads' just to name a few, other books include the cute foods with the doughnuts etc and some steampunkery ones too... just haven't got to grips with them yet.
