Translucent Clay

Whenever I bake anything using translucent clay, it seems to turn brown. I try to watch it carefully, but next thing I know its browned or tanned and my piece is ruined. Any suggestions or ideas?

Re: Translucent Clay

I find the trick to translucent clay is brand and thickness. Kato is much whiter than sculpey. thickness is an issue, because when I apply too thick a layer of translucent, the sculpey does turn a beigish color.

Re: Translucent Clay

I never seem to have luck with it either! My daughter recently made bones out of it for her necklaces and earrings, and since we bake ours in a regular oven with the cookie sheet all sealed up with foil, we don't really get to see it until we uncover it. Well, her bones turned a nice shade of light beige, which surprised me as I'd forgotten to check the clock, and they were overcooked. My problem is I always overwork it, then end up with those nasty little floaties in it!
