They say not to use generic brand clay but Sculpey is too soft!

So I make those rustic faceted pc beads using the cheap clay because that stuff is nice and stiff out of the package. Sculpey, even right out of the package, is already rather soft and the edge of the facets squish as I work. I tried leaching out some of the plasticisers in my Sculpey but it still is too soft for my liking. Am I stuck using refrigerated clay if I want to use the nicer stuff?

you can try other brands. I think premo is a stiffer clay and I find fimo nice as well

I used to use Sculpey, but I agree, it is so soft! I switched over to Premo awhile back, and I love it! I would highly recommended it as a stiffer clay.

Fimo clay professional and effect are quiet firm. You could try using these.

I found out the hard way how bad sculptey is, even after pressing it between two papers all night long and leaving behind big greasy stains, it still sucks, sticky , too soft. If you notice almost no one uses sculpty in youtube tutorials, Premo and fimo is the way to go..
