Definitely! I bake metal findings partially in clay all the time... The question is really, will people buy it when it's clay pressed up against their ear. Is that as sanitary as the metal? Maybe someone can answer that.
I'd recommend trying an industrial strength epoxy glue. I use E6000 to glue my clay onto journal covers.
